|Summary of the main<br>activities in relation to those<br>purposes for the public<br>benefit, in particular, the<br>activities, projects or services<br>identified in the accounts.|Para 1.17 and<br>1.19|This year the Club has been involved in a<br>number of fundraising activities.<br>From March onwards it has held a breakfast<br>bar at a local Car Boot Sale, serving bacon<br>sausages and burgers, plus drinks for<br>visitors to the car boot. It has also been a<br>good way of raising our profile within the<br>community.<br>It has also held an Easter cake stall, with<br>free eggs for Children on Easter Sunday.<br>In April & May, with the support of Forestry<br>England, we were able to facilitate people<br>with or without their cars to visit a local<br>Bluebell Wood, most of which is not normally<br>open to the public. A request for donations is<br>made at the gate.<br>An information stand was set up at a local<br>supermarket, with a “Name the Lion”<br>competition which also gave the club an<br>opportunity to meet the public and promote<br>membership.<br>A stand at a local show in June with a<br>Tombola was another fundraising activity.<br>In November we supported the Marlborough<br>Community by providing Father Christmas<br>and his sleigh and drove the Mayor through<br>the centre of Marlborough at the annual<br>Christmas light switch-on<br>Father Christmas and his sleigh was also<br>driven around the town, villages and<br>supermarkets in the area, bringing joy to<br>families and raising funds throughout<br>December.|





|Statement confirming<br>whether the trustees have<br>had regard to the guidance<br>issued by the Charity<br>Commission on public<br>benefit|Para 1.18|The Trustees have paid regard to the Charity<br>Commission’s guidance on public benefit in<br>dealing with the objectives and activities of<br>the club.<br>The Club is governed by its CIO Constitution<br>and by the Constitutions and By-Laws of<br>Lions Clubs International as revised from<br>time to time. The Trustees are appointed in<br>accordance with Charity Law and they have<br>overall responsibility to ensure that the Club<br>operates in accordance with Charity law and<br>the club’s CIO document. All business of the<br>club is carried out on a monthly basis and is<br>attended and overseen by the Trustees.<br>The club relies on fundraising events and<br>occasional donations from the public to carry<br>out its work. All administrative expenses of<br>the club are met from subscriptions paid by<br>its members. The work is carried out entirely<br>by volunteers.<br>The club works with other local and national<br>agencies, and with other Lions Clubs, and<br>Lions Clubs international to achieve its<br>objectives.|

Examples of<br>this are:<br>•<br>Providing Physiotherapy for a child<br>with disabilities to enable the child to<br>start at his local school.<br>•<br>Nursery for a child with learning<br>difficulties during the school<br>holidays, to enable the child’s<br>parents to have a break.<br>•<br>A mattress and storage for a family.<br>•<br>Carpets and flooring for a number of<br>families who have moved into social<br>housing (where the policy is for<br>carpets are removed at each change<br>of tenant).<br>•<br>Washing Machines and a cooker.<br>•<br>Clothing for someone who had<br>nothing.<br>•<br>Hampers at Christmas.<br>•<br>Christmas and Mother’s day gifts.<br>•<br>A specialised tent and sunglasses<br>for a child who had an allergy to<br>sunlight.<br>•<br>A local school was provided with<br>play equipment.<br>We have sponsored a disadvantaged young<br>person, nominated by their school, for a year<br>to attend a Youth Camp which helps their<br>personal development and confidence<br>through a range of activities. (carried forward<br>from last year due to Covid restrictions).<br>We have also donated to the Mayor of<br>Marlborough Charities following the<br>Christmas Light Switch-on and Lions<br>International Relief funds for Eye Camps and<br>Water Aid.<br>We have provided “message in a bottle”<br>bottles to the elderly who store medication<br>details in a bottle in their fridge. This is used<br>by paramedics in an emergency.<br>We have collected glasses from a local<br>optician and other locations and sent them<br>for recycling.|
