Danielle 'Rhimes' Lecoinle led an R&D period in the Autumn with professional dancers and students from Urdang for a brand new commission al Sadler's Wells E8$t opening In 2025 lunfortunalely a delay on original plans due to building delays). We also held a three week R&D period in January of this year to develop Gho$l Ship5, our co-produeiion wth Icon Theatre, Medway and Amina Khayyam Dance Company. We're really looking forward to seeing these ¢￿ative Ideas come into fruition 85 full productions In future year5. The range of Talent Developtnenl prDiects that were delivered throughout the year have also been a re81 highlight. We have committed to growing and developing these project5 arTd schemes to ensure we are supporting the next generation of theatre makers. Our projects provide paid opportunities lor artists at diffe￿nt stages of their career lo develop ski118 in choreography, leaching, performance, theatre design, business acumen and artistic leadership. Together, the lalenl development projects have helped lo deliver a progression roule for earty to Èstsbli$hed artist$. Individually they ￿SpOnded to needs articulated by artssts themselves, induding space to create. leadership opportunitie5 and strengthening skills and experience in delivering participatory and leaching work. as well as performance and thureographic skills. Beyond the physical theatrical audience, VR engaged over 3,500 children and young people in our talent development and participation programmes and reached 2,430 people online wth our digit81 screenings wth 7,414 educational production resour￿ pack5 do%*nloaded. Of the 31 schools work3hops delivered the majonty took place outside London and were enjoyed by 1,412 young people. In all we delivered 125 events for young people this year. This commission is a new production directed by our ASSO￿ale Artistic Director Danielle 'Rhimes' Lecointe, this will be Rhirnes, fir51 full length narrative piece for the Company Since taking on her role, we are so thrilled to have the opportunity to support her work as a Choreographer and Director on $uch a main stage. This R&D period worked exclusively VAlh the creative teams and professional dancers and explood the Themes of the history of Chalham Dockyard alongside establishing key element5 of the narrative, selecting the stories to be told and creating extensive thoreography for the production. In Septetnber we welcomed the 2023124 cohort ol the Colnpany alongside Artistic D1￿ctor Chaldon WilliaTns, an alumni of our programme The Artists. In the autumn the Company trained with Chaldon and the gue51 teacher5 on foundati skills and rehearsed a new perfonrance Set for the ZooNalion Academy of Dance Christmas Show. In the new year the Company began working with Sadlerfs Wells Company of Elder$ a performance group lor non professional danceTS aged over 60 Together they rehearsed and developed an inter-generational ple￿ to be pertormed in April 2024 at SadleVs Wells. This year the Company also perfomi&d Iwce al the Soulhbank Centre, a$ part of a celebration of 50 years of Hip Hop on the river stage in the Sumrner and at the Imagine Children's Festival in February hall term in the Clore ballroom. This edition of the programme was delivered as a retreat, for three days. al ZDoNation Oance Spa￿, In France. The prograrnme offered 10 dance art151s the opportunity lo really interrogate their own choreographic process, with sludio sessions. coaching sessions. indwidual and group discussion, as well as time for per8Dnal ￿llectIon. Evaluation wa5 conducted with sll participants, wth ovewhelmingly positive feedbad(, Including a greater sense of choreogrbphic dèrity how lo tske their next steps in these journeys. as well as appreciation for the fact that the programme was run as a ￿t￿at. to remove everyday stresses and give greater focus on personal development. SHIFT We ente￿ the third year ol our partnership with Dancers ca￿er Development IDCDI - an oryanisation dedi¢a¢ed to supporting independent freelance artists retrain. Together we have created SHIFT - a prograrnme of support Specifically for artists working In Hip HDP Iwlh a focu5 on women and those who experience rausm a5 a barrier lu their developrrentl. SHIFT provided a grant of £2.500 tD the artists alongside mentoring and coaching lo support thern exploring different opportunities for Iheir careers off stage. It's a vital way for us to increase the nurnber and range of people, particularty young people, to experie￿ and be inspired by high quality Hip Hop inspired worf(. In 10181 we delivered 31 this year and ￿rked vAth 1.412 children and young people The majority cf our sd)ool workshops take place outside London. From Glasgow to Dover, we have engaged wlh young people up and down the country with 6 workshops taking place in the north of England, 5 in the midlands and 1 in Scotland. Through ZooNalion Academy of Dance in London we continue to offerterm lime weekly dance classes for young people aged 4-21, these dasses are open to all abilities and backgrounds to develop their ski115 In Hip Hop dance styles. We continue to offer 8 number of bursanes to students and use the annual Christma5 Show as an opportunity to fundraise for ZooNalion. Some h1ghlights ul our participation events this year include.. ZYC took to the Clore Ballroom and performed a new set for over SOO young people and their familie$. We ran 4 worf(shops. a lunchtime DJ set a5 well a5 ZYC'S performance. with over 1500 people attending throughout the day.. all of which was h05ted by two ZYC alumni. Maklng Moves We worked wlh Sadle¢s Wells on their new thoreography and performance proied for schools and youth group5, embarking on the pilot of a 2 year prDgramme, connecting young peo>ple with the ideas and Stimuli set by worfd renowned choreographers. This first edition saw Dannielle 'Rhimes' Lecointe on bÈhalf of ZooNation. join Alesandra Seutin. Jordan Oougla5 and Oona Doherty ln the creation ol Ivolkils rontaining Information on their choreographic Prath1￿ and influence, a chofeographerfs weekend in September for the leaders of all the dan￿ groups taking part and creation period for all groups, leading up to national performance platforms to select group5 for the opportunity to pertorm on the Sadlerfs Wells stage, next yeèr. The toolkit featured warm up and choreography videos filmed by Rhimes, joined by ZooNaliDn Youth Company alumni Portia Oli and Williatn Pascua and Bradley Charles 8150 joined the ZcoNatson faculty for the Cho￿ ographe¢s weekend. Overall the two year pericd. the project will engage nearty 800 young people from 48 youlh and school groups across the Country. London Youth Heritage Taster Doy In July 2023 we delivered a day of workshops for London Youth (who have previously run a large scale participation project wlhl, a5 part of their Cultural Heritage Prograrnme taster day. As part or the day. we delivered 2, two hour danee wotkshops lo 36 yDung people aged 13 - 19. inviting participants to explcre different heritages, as ￿tIl as further connect wth their own. through (lan￿, movement and fflu51C. Robert Blalr Primary School 2022123 was the first year we began working wth Robert Blair Primary School, piloted six. two hour workshop sessions at the school. run by our Creative Assistants in the Summer Term.
