2023124 ha5 been another busy and brilliant year for ZooNation' The Kate Prince Company IZooNalionl. Having closed
2022123 with the explosive Sylvia and ils three Olivier Award nominations plus a wn for 8est Actress in a Supporting
Role for Beverley Knight. we launched 5traighl Into 2023124 wth Ihe lour of the astonishing Message In a Bollle,
Sadlerfs Well$ ci>produclion. We %8tre delighted that this tour itTrcluded Many dates at intemational venues. a fiisl and a
significant milestone for us. Bad( at home. 202124 has been a year of focus on nurturing new Ideas. procJu¢ti¢ns and
artists. It has been fantastic to grow and develop our Talent Develiy)menl programme this year and to support young
people and srtist5 at 8 range of points in their careers.
The tour of our Artistic Director and Founder Kate Pnnce'5 Message in a Bottle wa5 a very 5peo31 mornenl lor the
Company, taking in two UK dates Icanlerèury, Manchester) before a run in London at the Peacock Theatre and takin9
us as far as Sydney Opera House where Karin3 Lawrence In Dance Australia declared it a "creatlve masterplece"
The production also toured through parts of Europe before finishing Dn an ektensive US tour thich Continued Into
2024125 with a run on Broachw8y. 11 has been wonderful to lake the work of the Company, particularty th13 production
with It's universal story of hope and resilience, ouis5de the UK and lo see the ￿a¢b"an from audiences around the world.
A real drearr come true. Across the 2023124 tour 168.919 people experienced the production.
ZooNatson Youth Company runs from September to August so each cohort spans across two financial years. We we
Ihnlled when the 2022123 Company were invited back to The Next GÈneration Festival at the Royal Opera House in
June. perforrning Twsce In Tirne, brillianuy created by our nevAy appointed Associate Arts81ic D1￿clOr Danielle 'Rhimes'
Lecointe. It was fantastic for the Company to have the opportunity lo perform in such an iconic and prestigious venue
again. They also Invited to perforrn Twice In Time at the Soulhbank Centre a5 part of the Solh Anniversary of Hip
Hop later in the Summer. The 2023124 cohort Company began training together in September 2023, led by ZooNation
Youth Company Artistic Director Chaldon Williams. Later In the year they collaborated ￿th Sadler's Wells Company of
Elders for the first time to rehearse an inlergenerational ple￿ The Ex¢han9e lo be performed nexl year as part of
Sadlerfs We115 Thestre'5 Elixir Festyval. (ljr Youth Company continues lo be the bedrock of our Talent Development
prograrnmes and ambitions. In September we Saw 17 eX￿ptIOnal danr£rs join the Company, it was brilliant to see them
floun5h and develop their confidence Ihrough their weekly training and public perfomiances.
Alongside our produ¢tion su￿sseS this year we took the time to do Some Research and tlevelopment IR&DI work tor
Iwo upcoming productions. Danielle 'Rhimes' Lecoinle led an R&D period in the Autumn with professional dancers and
students from Urdang for a brand new commission al Sadler's Wells E8$t opening In 2025 lunfortunalely a delay on
original plans due to building delays). We also held a three week R&D period in January of this year to develop Gho$l
Ship5, our co-produeiion wth Icon Theatre, Medway and Amina Khayyam Dance Company. We're really looking forward
to seeing these ¢￿ative Ideas come into fruition 85 full productions In future year5.
The range of Talent Developtnenl prDiects that were delivered throughout the year have also been a re81 highlight. We
have committed to growing and developing these project5 arTd schemes to ensure we are supporting the next
generation of theatre makers. Our projects provide paid opportunities lor artists at diffe￿nt stages of their career lo
develop ski118 in choreography, leaching, performance, theatre design, business acumen and artistic leadership.
Together, the lalenl development projects have helped lo deliver a progression roule for earty to Èstsbli$hed artist$.
Individually they ￿SpOnded to needs articulated by artssts themselves, induding space to create. leadership
opportunitie5 and strengthening skills and experience in delivering participatory and leaching work. as well as
performance and thureographic skills. This yearfs projects, alongside ZooNalion Youth Cornpany, Included Choreo
Culture. The Artists, SHIFT and Crea(Ive A5SlStant3.
Beyond the physical theatrical audience, VR engaged over 3,500 children and young people in our talent
development and participation programmes and reached 2,430 people online wth our digit81 screenings wth 7,414
educational production resour￿ pack5 do%*nloaded. Of the 31 schools work3hops delivered the majonty took place
outside London and were enjoyed by 1,412 young people. In all we delivered 125 events for young people this year.

2023-24 was the final year in Post for our original Trustees Carolyn Cox ITrea5urerl, John Cohen and Estelle Mccartney
(Chairl. We are hugely grateful for Iheii governance and 5UPPOrt since 2018 and we have now fflade the decision lo
grow our Board of Trustees and recruited some bnlliant new Trustees who help 5UPPOrt us In meeting our ambitions

Thi$ year has 81sD been a year of developmenl, learning and planning in relation to environmental and wider Social
Issues 202>24 was the fir31 year in the current National PortfDlio Investment period from our principal funder IArts
Counul England). The Investment prinuples for Art$ Counol England has ensured that our programrne of work not only

company and a company that responds to current sorial issues in its practi￿5 gnd programrne5.
Our Trustees are vital lo this proces5, we created Trustee groups Specifically fDr areas of including environmental
sponsibility and inclusivity and relevan￿ Iwith a focu5 on ensuring our work reaches and engages artists who
experience barriers to their developFnent due lo their race). Our board meeting reporting also Includes additional
progress reports in these areas and our newTrustees have been assigned lo the groups.
This year we created a Green Rider lo accompany all productions and an Enwironmental Respon5ibilty Action plan for
the year lo ensure we are considering our environmental ifflpact from the outset and nol In retrospect. The core team
completed Carbon Literacy Training delivered by the Carbon Literacy Proieet which had a significant impact on our
understanding and green arnbitions as a Company, next year we will extend this to Creative Teams and Tru51ees. We
continue to partner ￿1th Julie'5 8icyde to continue to moniior our green performance particularty in rela110n to our office
and touring arnbitions. We aim to afways Indude environmental Impact planning in the pre-production prottss and plan
to monitor our carbon foolprinl in production lor the first time to beller understand th8 gap b8lween bvhere currently
are and our ambition to achieve Theat￿ G￿enbOOk baseline.
Next year we plan to create a Klental Health and Wellbeing Rider to be shared with partner organisalions to ensure

Mental Health and Wellbeing Officer who mentor5 the ZooNalion Youth Company and the young artisls on Ihe Creative

R&D new comml88lon at Sadlee$ Wells East
In SÈplember 2023 we held our Second penod of R&D for a new commission from the brand new Sadlerfs Wells E891,
originally due lo open in DeceTnber 2024 but now opening in December 2025 lunfortunately due to building del8ysI. This
commission is a new production directed by our ASSO￿ale Artistic Director Danielle 'Rhimes' Lecointe, this will be
Rhirnes, fir51 full length narrative piece for the Company Since taking on her role, we are so thrilled to have the
opportunity to support her work as a Choreographer and Director on $uch a main stage.
The R&D period was led by Rhitnes and in¢luded professional dancers and a selection ol student Iyancers frorn Urdang
Dance School. The R&D allowed Rhimes to explore key themes of Ihe production wth performers in a roorn and
culminated In a beautifLJI sharing of some early s￿ne5 and Cho￿09raphY alongside her wider ciealive vision for the
production across all design elements We are hugely excited lo be co-producing this new production with Sadler's
We11s East and wll presenl It wth greal pnc*e in 2D25.
Ghost Shi
In January and February 2024 along51de Icon Theatre 2nd Amin8 Khayy8m Dance Cornpany we delivered a three week
R&D penod for our co-production Ghost Ships. Ghost Ships wll be a sile specific large scale irvmersive production wth
more than 185 cornmunity members from Medway and Chatham. perfortning alon9side the profes810nal cast of
ZooNation and Amina Khayyatn dan¢Èrs. This R&D period worked exclusively VAlh the creative teams and professional
dancers and explood the Themes of the history of Chalham Dockyard alongside establishing key element5 of the
narrative, selecting the stories to be told and creating extensive thoreography for the production.
The R&D ended a sharin9 of Mthal had been explored and cleated during that period. it W88 faniastic to see what
had been achieved by Rhimes, Director Nancy Hurst and Amina Khayyam alongside the immense talent of the
Pfofe5sional company. We are very èxcited to begin rthearsals for this production later in 2024 and to see this R&D
develop into a finished production for audiences.
21 TALENT DEVELOPMENT
To support the next generation of Hip Hop talent n8tionslly.
Since our Ill￿pIlon the company has strived to address the lack of su5tain8d profes510nal opportunities for Hip Hop
artists and provide cntical skills development for the next generation of artists.
Th15 talent development fDCUS wll remain as the bedrock of ZooNation support in the future. Our progr3TnrT7es were
de51gned In response to artist demand, and some were devised In partnership with artists Ihern5elves. Collectively the
programrnes support artists from earty career lo leadership with both Iheir own creative thoreographic and perfomance
Ideas and becoming strong dan￿ educators (in line with our tharilable objectives to advance the education of young
people. dance practitioners and the general pu￿1cl.
ZooNatlon Youth Company
ZooNation Youth Cotnpany have had a brilliant and Varied y8ar, the 2022123 cohort worked very hard acro55 the
rehearsal weeks for their perfomiance of Twice In Time at the Royal Ope13 House as part of The Next Generation
Festival. The piece was ￿ated and directed by ZooNation Associate Artisti¢ Di￿￿0* Danielle 'Rhirnes' Lecointe. In
Septetnber we welcomed the 2023124 cohort ol the Colnpany alongside Artistic D1￿ctor Chaldon WilliaTns, an alumni of
our programme The Artists. In the autumn the Company trained with Chaldon and the gue51 teacher5 on foundati
skills and rehearsed a new perfonrance Set for the ZooNalion Academy of Dance Christmas Show. In the new year the
Company began working with Sadlerfs Wells Company of Elder$ a performance group lor non professional danceTS
aged over 60 Together they rehearsed and developed an inter-generational ple￿ to be pertormed in April 2024 at
SadleVs Wells. This year the Company also perfomi&d Iwce al the Soulhbank Centre, a$ part of a celebration of 50
years of Hip Hop on the river stage in the Sumrner and at the Imagine Children's Festival in February hall term in the
Clore ballroom.

Our Creative Assis12nts s¢heme provide5 paid experience, training. employment and mentoring for up to four young
creative5 who wsh lo develop their dance development and leaching skills. The scheme aims lo fill an ￿tentifIed gap in
the industry for paid professional opportunities 8nd support for Hip Hop artists at the earty stsge in their careers Like
the Youlh Company ihE schetne run5 frotn August to September so spans across two financial years. In 2023124 we
had four artists partlC1pate In the programrne, William Pascua. Xsia Blair. Georgie Mziu and Elijyh SFllrth. Each art15t 15
offered training 5e5sions ￿th our ProdU￿r Annie Taylor Gooby and lead artists on how lo navigate the Industry, time
with our Mental Health and Wellbeing Officer. minimutn uf 15 hou15 of paid ernployment and option to join the ZooNalion
pool of lea¢hers for fulure work. This year the Creative Assistants have worked on our production of Ghost Ships, wth
the ZooNalion Youth Cornpany and the Company of Elders and ￿th Robert Blair Pnmary Schcol, as just a few
examples.
The ArU$ts
In August 2023 we delivered a third edition of The Ar￿stS, our paid professional development prograrnme for confident
creatives. offering three art15ts personal, practical and creative support lo explore an idea, wih 10 day5 of 5e5510nS
across Iwo weeks. The programrDe, led by Shannelle 'Tali' Fergus is a collaboration between ZooN8tson and Identity.
Ideas. Industry. Iiiil, with guest facilitators Rachel Kay (Flight Mode Melhodl. D.J Walde and Dannielle 'Rhimes'
Lecointe. On the fourth day of the programme, the artlsts were ioined by nine dancers in totsl. three selected to work
wth each choreographer. wth all dancets being erther ZooNalion Youth Company or identity. Ideas industry alumni.
The final day ofthe programme included a scratch sharing of work, presented to Industry contacts and peer5. The artists
were given feedback on Iheir WQTk by audiences. had an individual explainer film made a5 well as footage of the full
piece, in Drder to support furthering their work. ZooNation and iii have conducted evaluation of the programrnp with all
art15t5 and dancers and are making plan5 for how be51 to offer fut￿re editions. in order to best support both artists we
have al￿adY engaged with ènd new individuals. We have CDTnrnitted to offering bi monlhly co-working days for all
alumni of The Artists, there we can offer advi￿ on any applications for presenting wod( and funding OPPOrtunilies.
choreo Culture
In April 2023, ZooNation committed lo furthering support of Choreo Culture. a PTogramme devised and delivered by
Associate Artistic Director Dannielle 'Rhimes' Le¢ointe, offering dance 8rtist5 the opportunity to explorè and expand their
own choreographic process. This edition of the programme was delivered as a retreat, for three days. al ZDoNation
Oance Spa￿, In France. The prograrnme offered 10 dance art151s the opportunity lo really interrogate their own
choreographic process, with sludio sessions. coaching sessions. indwidual and group discussion, as well as time for
per8Dnal ￿llectIon. Evaluation wa5 conducted with sll participants, wth ovewhelmingly positive feedbad(, Including a
greater sense of choreogrbphic dèrity how lo tske their next steps in these journeys. as well as appreciation for the
fact that the programme was run as a ￿t￿at. to remove everyday stresses and give greater focus on personal
development.
SHIFT
We ente￿ the third year ol our partnership with Dancers ca￿er Development IDCDI - an oryanisation dedi¢a¢ed to
supporting independent freelance artists retrain. Together we have created SHIFT - a prograrnme of support
Specifically for artists working In Hip HDP Iwlh a focu5 on women and those who experience rausm a5 a barrier lu their
developrrentl. SHIFT provided a grant of £2.500 tD the artists alongside mentoring and coaching lo support thern
exploring different opportunities for Iheir careers off stage. Three art151s were selected to lake part. each exploring a
different area that they would like to pur$ue to enhance their erDployability and ski115 Outside of being 8 Hip Hop
performer. Due 10 the success of the programme we have deuded to continue the work with DCD up to 2027.
Associate Artistic Dlrector Danlelle'Rhlmes' Lecoonte
2023124 was our first full year wlh Dannielle 'Rhimes' Lecointe as our Associate Artistic Director. Given the Increasing
demand5 on our Founder and Art15tic Director Kale Prince, the company made the derision to deliver on our mission to
support the next generats'on of Iheatre rnakers and cre8te this n8w Artistic Role. Add￿ssing a key nsk for the company
(decreased Artistic DirectorlFounder led projects and profile), Ihis new role has provided artistic oversight, greater
onnection to the cornmunilie$ seek to serve and inspire and ha5 provided critical professional development to an

r participation work takes us all over the eounlry delivering workshops in schools and at events. It's a vital way for us
to increase the nurnber and range of people, particularty young people, to experie￿ and be inspired by high quality

In 10181 we delivered 31 this year and ￿rked vAth 1.412 children and young people
The majority cf our sd)ool workshops take place outside London. From Glasgow to Dover, we have engaged wlh
young people up and down the country with 6 workshops taking place in the north of England, 5 in the midlands and 1 in
Scotland.
Through ZooNalion Academy of Dance in London we continue to offerterm lime weekly dance classes for young people
aged 4-21, these dasses are open to all abilities and backgrounds to develop their ski115 In Hip Hop dance styles. We
continue to offer 8 number of bursanes to students and use the annual Christma5 Show as an opportunity to fundraise
for ZooNalion.

In August we delivered three workshops In House. Locking and Popping. led by ZooNation artists and supported by our
c￿st￿e Assistants on the Riverside Terrace for all ages. Some of the UK and the world's best known Hip Hop DJS
performed $els throughoul the day, a5 well as ZYC performing an extract from Twce In Time and ki¢king off an open

lrnagine Chlldren's Festlval
In February we ran a ZooNation Hip Hop Half Tem Takeover. as part of Imagine Children'5 Festival at Soulhbank
Cenlre. ZYC took to the Clore Ballroom and performed a new set for over SOO young people and their familie$. We ran 4
worf(shops. a lunchtime DJ set a5 well a5 ZYC'S performance. with over 1500 people attending throughout the day.. all of
which was h05ted by two ZYC alumni.
Maklng Moves
We worked wlh Sadle¢s Wells on their new thoreography and performance proied for schools and youth group5,
embarking on the pilot of a 2 year prDgramme, connecting young peo>ple with the ideas and Stimuli set by worfd
renowned choreographers. This first edition saw Dannielle 'Rhimes' Lecointe on bÈhalf of ZooNation. join Alesandra
Seutin. Jordan Oougla5 and Oona Doherty ln the creation ol Ivolkils rontaining Information on their choreographic
Prath1￿ and influence, a chofeographerfs weekend in September for the leaders of all the dan￿ groups taking part and
creation period for all groups, leading up to national performance platforms to select group5 for the opportunity to
pertorm on the Sadlerfs Wells stage, next yeèr. The toolkit featured warm up and choreography videos filmed by
Rhimes, joined by ZooNaliDn Youth Company alumni Portia Oli and Williatn Pascua and Bradley Charles 8150 joined the
ZcoNatson faculty for the Cho￿ ographe¢s weekend. Overall the two year pericd. the project will engage nearty 800
young people from 48 youlh and school groups across the Country.
London Youth Heritage Taster Doy
In July 2023 we delivered a day of workshops for London Youth (who have previously run a large scale participation
project wlhl, a5 part of their Cultural Heritage Prograrnme taster day. As part or the day. we delivered 2, two hour danee
wotkshops lo 36 yDung people aged 13 - 19. inviting participants to explcre different heritages, as ￿tIl as further
connect wth their own. through (lan￿, movement and fflu51C.
Robert Blalr Primary School
2022123 was the first year we began working wth Robert Blair Primary School, piloted six. two hour workshop
sessions at the school. run by our Creative Assistants in the Summer Term. Th15 provided valuable teaching experience
for these young art15ts, In a setting that their mentor Bradley Charles w85 able to Wslt ano give feedback on. It 15 a long
term ambition to estab115h a creative partnership al the school.

We are excited for the final leg of Message In a Bottle which will see the production landing in New York and opening on

for olher ZaoNalon repertoire.

In September we will remount The Madhatterfs Tea Party at the Royal Opera & Ballet The production wll have a four

specifc productioa. This Is a brilliant opportunity for ZooNation to leam more about creating work in this way and wth
large scale community groups.

ACCOUNTING POLICIES
8ASIS OF PREPARING THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS
The financial statements of the tharitab￿ company, ¥thi¢h is a public benefit entity under FRS 102, have been
prepared in accofdance the Charilies SORP IFRS 1021 'Accounling and Reporting by Charities Stalernent
of Recomfnended PracliTr applicable to charities preparing their a¢¢Dunls in 8ccoréance ￿th the Financial
Reporting Standard applicable In the UK and Republic of Ireland IFRS 1021 (effective l January 20191,,
Financial Reporting Standard 102 'The Finanual Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of
Ireland, and the Companies Act 2006. The finan¢ial statements have been p￿Pared under the historical cost
convention.
These financial statements have been prepared on the going concern basis, as the￿ are no material
uncertainties about the ¢harily's ability to continue. The Irust8es' have reached this condusion based on the
nature Df the grant funding, contracts for which have been agreed for the foreseeable future.
ZooNation. The Kate Prince Company Limited meets the definition ol a public benefit entity under FRS 102. The
charity's functional and presentstional currency is £ Slerting.
INCOMING RESOURCES
Voluntary income by way of donations and grants that provhle core funding or are of a general nature Ère
recognised in the St81emenl of Financial Activities when receivable. In the event that a donation is subje¢t to
fvirilling perf0[rnan￿ condition5 before the charity Is entitled to the funds, the income is deferred and not
cognised until Il Is probable that those wnditions wll be fulfilled In the reporting period.
The donations and legacy income is ￿ceIvable from non*xchange transactions, all donations and legacies

Reslricled funds can only be used for particular restricted purposes wthin the objects of the charity. Restrictions
