To promote improve, develop, maintain, and advance education and the
arts for the public benefit, in particular through the promotion, support and
encouragement of the art of music and all other art forms and specifically,
but not exclusively, by commissioning or supporting the commissioning of
musical works for the viola with or without other instruments or voices
which in connection therewith may include public performances,
masterclasses, coaching, open rehearsals, workshops, talks and lectures,
outreach programmes, publication of scores and parts and recordings.
ln accordance with the objects of the Charity, the past underwritten viola
concerto from ANDERS HILLBORG received further performances in the
UK (October and November 2024, Scottish Chamber Orchestra) as part
of Nordic Music Days.
MAGNUS LINDBERG’s viola concerto received its UK premiere
(November 2024, Philharmonia Orchestra) and the viola concerto from
CASSANDRA MILLER was nominated for an Ivors Award.
Furthering the V10LA project, the charity’s aim to create ten new major
works for viola and orchestra by 2030, two new works by ERIKA FOX and
ANNA CLYNE were underwritten.
The charity held a crowdfunder to raise further funds for the VCC
Composer Prize, which was launched in May 2025.
The trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity
Commission on public benefit.

Summary of the main
achievements of the charity
during the year
The Scottish and UK premieres of the Anders Hillborg and Magnus
Lindberg viola concertos were given by Lawrence Power and the Scottish
Chamber Orchestra / Philharmonia Orchestra respectively, both achieved
critical acclaim.
The Lockdown Commissions continue to inspire young viola players
globally, with new performances of the works. In July 2025 the viola
concerto from ANDERS HILLBORG was performed by young violist Ionel
Ungureanu with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin.
The VCC Composer Prize was launched in May 2025 searching for new
composers to write for viola in a chamber setting.

Brief statement of the Unrestricted funds will be retained to meet operating costs while the charity’s policy on reserves expendable endowment will be used to support the underwriting of commissions and to meet any shortfall on underwritten pieces.
