Each grant is considered on its own merits in accordance with the Grant Making Policy that has been approved by members. Due regard is taken of the advice from the Charity Commission. We rely heavily on a dedicated group of volunteers who make a valuable contribution to the fundraising adivities of the Charity. Section D Achievements and performance Summary ofthe main achievements of the charty during the year The Trustees have ensured the ongoing success of our main fundraising activity, namely our second hand bookshop. This included renewing the lease on the shop premises for a further 3 years. A prostate ¢ancer screening event was sucSsfUllY held in Thombury in onjunction with other local organisations. Grants and donations were made to over 40 organisations and individuals. A large proportion were local to Thornbury and covered youth and children, the elderly, the disadvantaged, cultural events, heaFth, the environment and volunteers. Support was also given to the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) to assist those who have suffered from disasters throughout the world. Section E Financial review Brief statement of the charity's policy on reserves The Charity holds a minimum of £20,000 in reserves. The Charity runs a second hand bookshop where books are donated to us by members of the public. Income is derived from financial donations made by the customers who take our books. Vvhile the bookshop is our main fundraising activity we also run raffles at Christmas and Easter to further raise funds. Funds raised by the public are used for charitable purposes minus the operating expenses of the fundraising events, Club administration costs are supported by members through dues, fines and social events. The club administration funds are kept separately in our admin account.
