mental health problems and to protect physical health
through encouraging horticulture-related physical activity;
and
To provide or assist in the provision of facilities in the interests
of social welfare for recreation or other leisure time
occupation of individuals resident in Darlington and the
surrounding area who have need of such facilities by reason
of their youth, age, infirmity or disability, financial hardship or
social circumstances with the object of improving their
conditions of life.

Dr Satinder Sanghera spent the year
training to return to General Practice after
a period of ill health retirement. In doing
so, she was able to look to benefit the
charity in new ways whilst the charity
was unable to accept clients due to the
Pandemic preventing our vulnerable
clients from taking any risk with social
gatherings.
As a direct result of her training she
became aware of integrated care services
and a new department within this called
staff health and well-being. They
sign-post NHS staff to wellbeing
therapies. We explored this further and
decided to link in with this organisation
to provide support to clients once NHS
covid guidance allowed groups to gather
outside.
Statement confirming
whether the trustees have
had regard to the guidance
issued by the Charity
Commission on public
benefit
Para 1.18 yes we have regarded the guidance on
public benefit

Achievements and Performance

SORP reference
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 As already mentioned the pandemic
prevented us from being able to open our
charity due to restrictions on social
gatherings throughout a large part of
2020, coupled with the fact that our
existing client base were largely all
shielding.
However this time was well spent
gathering information to send the charity
in a new direction to help those NHS
Frontline staff whilst linking in with an
emerging new NHS organisation
purposely designed for this.
We also used this time to explore skilled
volunteers who could contribute to this
new service and sourced two excellent
mindfulness and greencare therapy
coaches as well as retaining an existing
excellent tai chi instructor.
This year was also spent revamping our
website and updating the profiles on our
volunteers.
Dr Sanghera also trained to volunteer to
help during the early stages of the
pandemic on the helplines and had
successful surgery which would
eventually allow her to then embark on a
training programme to re-enter general
practice
