| Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit) |
Our trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the charity commission on public benefit.Despite the challenges faced by the charity due to Covid-19 pandemic and the lockdowns WAVE trustees and volunteers continued to work to meet the charity’s objectives and the need of beneficiaries. Trustees Followed the good practice guidance to run the charity effectively and comply with the legal duties. WAVE team and volunteers adapted working practices to address new circumstances including delivering more services remotely, delivering online sessions and workshops, collaborating more with other local charities and community groups. Unfortunately, due to coronavirus lockdowns and restrictions we had to postpone our face-to-face activities including Arabic English Language and Cultural Exchange weekly sessions. However, we responded by making greater use of technology and changed the way of the operations by delivering our sessions online. WAVE team worked to support women and young people from BAME community who have experienced anti-Muslim hate, racism and discrimination, and collaborated with Tell Mama and other similarly focused organisations. On August 2020, WAVE team organised Eid Picnic event to celebrate cultural diversity, and to promote mutual respect and understanding. WAVE volunteers worked in collaboration with community groups in Bankside and around Southwark. Covid-19 safety measures were in place. The event brought together people of different faiths and beliefs, and provided the opportunity to people who were not travel to celebrate Eid with their families. WAVE team and volunteers organised a number of online events, and activities to educate the public and raise awareness of human rights issues including online sessions on COVID-19 and Human Rights. |
