Objects and Activities Object of the charlty The object of the CIO is lo advan the education of primary school chIldn who have spec1 educational needs I'SEN I that are not separately or fvlly addressed by the children's 5¢hoollsl. Activities of the ¢harity The charity achieves its object by provtrjing grants to help fijnd qualified specialist luitson for SEN children whose parenllsl or other responsible aduttlsl could nol otherwse afford the fees. The ¢ttarity's policy is to require a contribution from the parentlsl I responsible adultlsl. The chanty also funds group sessions for SEN children from local schools. The charity has an arrangement wrth EffErson House LLP I"EH°I, a special needs learning cenlre, whereby EH has committed. regardless of demand for plaS from elsewhere. to prOVe at least places each temi to children funded by the Charty and lo gNe a 20% discount on the fees for such places. The Emerson Trust Achievements durlng the year During the year, the charity started funding "Catch up Clubs". where Small groups of children from a local school who are behind in either literacy andlor mathematics attend Emèrson House one aft&rnwn a week during term lime The Tfustees believe these clubs have been very $uceessfrJl and consider them very good value for money. Public benefft The Iruslees confirm that they have refeffed to the guidance contained in the Chanty Commission's general guidance on public benefit when reviewing the chartty's objects and Folicies in respect of the making of grants. The trustees agreed on a series of actrons and policies in order to ensure public nefft in the disbursement of the Initial funds available to the charity, including. agreeing a process for identifying $uilable pupils for support and for applying financial means-tesb'ng of the pupil's family or alternatsve sources of sUPPOrt'. giving guidance to parents and other applicants for supwrt towards obtaining state support for their hild's special needs.. ensuring that the charity follows best practice in cntical areas including safeguarding and privacy., deeiding to identify and approach a primary school local to EH with the intention of estsblishing a partnership arrangement with the school lo provKle funding of groups of pupils in touch typing andlor literacy luilion., negotiating wrth EH of a further significanuy discounted rate for its teaching services for the spe¢iali5t lutofing of individual or groups of pupils". agreeing lo seek a longer term programme of fvnding for the charity once it had established a track record in the individual pupil and local school partnership programmes. However. the Trustees believe that. once a commitrment to help a child has been made, it is Importanl lo be sure to be able to make su¢h contn"bulions lo the fees until such lime as the child has extracted maximum benefit from the specialised schooling. The Trustees would not wsh a child to have to cease their attendance as a result of the Charity being unable lo afford lo corslinue to fund the fees. For each child for whom a grant is approved. therefore. the Trustees make their best assessment of how many terms that Child is Iikety to require at the relevant school and the funds to pay the anticipated fees are then served for that purpose. Al the year end, there was no requirement to reserve funds for anl¢ipated future fees.
