Graham in DOr￿St￿r Royal Infimiary for 4 days having various tests when they told u5 they h￿1 found a huge mass acx05s hi5 abdomen, they Llk1n't know what it was but suspected it could be cancer, Iwo d8y18ter they tried a procedure at Doncaster to stop the bleeding. this didn't w)rk and so Ihe nexi day he was blue ltrjhted by afflbul8nce to Northem General in Sheffiekl. he needed lo be operated on by a spe¢Hlist surgeon. Thè nèxt 9 h￿[S w•r& unbearable waiing for a cal to know rf he wouhj make it. hour fdl like a day had pa55ed. The surgeon ￿￿¢(1 me after 9pm to tell me the operation was a success. and that Graham was ncw under sedathjn in ICU vknere he 4w)Lld remain for the next lew d8ys. He spenl a further 2 week5 in the Northem Genera and then many n￿lIhS re£￿Ve￿n9 al home. not only had they removed the tumour but a150 ham of h$ l•ryo Intest¢￿. crf his bntesti￿. hB duodenum. gallbladder, and he was left with a stoma. Th8s8 weeks w8r8 the worst twne of ￿Jr li4w, due to the CoNTr19 reStr1d￿ our ¢PukJren uxjld not visit their Dad in hospital. I was abl8 to Visbt for 2 h￿[S a day which passed so quickly. the emotional strain was something none of u5 had ever eX￿lenGed. t)uring those w8eks it felt k.ke Ihe love, strength, and support from al of our family twas the onty I￿r￿j geiting us through. gr IF courne of tha folbing months Graham began kn recL)ver and we rebjrned to Sheffield for a scan and hisloknJy report on the luft￿￿r. Graham atready had prostste cancer vthich he was diagnosed with around 2.5 years ago. we had always fell really lucky that this vrds found wdrty and was b8￿9 m0nrt0r￿l at DRI. GIST is 8 ra￿ cancel which is incurat4e and unfC￿unaIety does respond lo chemolherapy or radK)therapy treatrnents. we were then refwr¢d to Weston Park Cancer Hospital and Graham was Immediately stsrted on a drug caled Imatinib a type of cancer grNth blod(er whtch keeps the can¢xr at bay for a limited bme, he tskes Ihis every day and vril have to continue ￿th this for the rest of his lffe. for as l¢)ng as the drug keeps wcwking. Graharn being a scouser was over the m(M)n with this. 11 didn't stop there. the Eve's trust booked us 1st dass train tickets to Liverpoo5 and a fabulous hotel th breakfast light next to the train station. We stayed there for 2 nvJhts., it w35 just pwfecl from start to finish.
