The final volume in the series on county Durham., Industrial Railways and Locomotives of Durham, Part 3 completes a comprehensive history of non-main line railways in the wunty. Kerr, Stuart Water Tube Boiler Geared Locomotives is an authoritatlve teGhniGal treatise which Covers a small number of machines construct8d to en unique design by this manufacturer., whilst still remaining easy to read and understand to the lay person. An updated and much expanded edttion of the Society's 'Decauville Works List, has become Ihe first truly bi-lingual book published by the Society, wjlh a text and photogphIC p*lOn5 in French as well as English. Four issues ofthe Society magazine, Ihe Industrial Railway Record, numbers 244 to 247, were published during the year and distributed to members as part of their annual subscription. Additional copies of each issue are printed for salg to the general public and there is a continuous demand for back i89ues which the Society sales team endeavour to meet. Six 36 page Bulletins wiéh UK and Sociely domestic news and four reduced size Bullotins of Overseas News were di51ributed to membetE, Spare coples of these are offered for sale to the general public atthe various Society sales stands throughout the year: Towards the lattèr part of the year it became possible to arrange a small nLJmber of visits for memb8rs to tnduslrial and privale iailway sites. Th8 four visits possible were well patronised and one allowed the Society to establish a re18tionship with management and residents at one of Her Majestys Prisons, where we were able to provide backgfofjnd historl¢al information to residents researching the history of the industrial railway formerty in use there. Copies of s¢anned doGum&nts from ihe Society's T8chniGal Library were made available to the Yorkshire Wolds Railway and the Invergary & Fort Augustus Railway Museum to aid with the restoralion of locomotives in their care. A storage unit at Sheffield, used for the deep storage of Itttle acce88ed documents in thg Archive and the Technical Library, has been given up and a suitably modified container storage unil leased at a lower cost adIanI to the Archive, making access easier and reducing the need to tr8vel to retrleve Items required for inspection, saving both tim8 and C02 .emissions. Many enquiries for infomiation from the general public come in to our volunteer5. whilst staffing our sales stand at galas and open days. Thes6 are followed up and passed to the appropriate officer to respond to. When postal and e-mail quaries are added in, a total of 56 historical enquiries were reiVed and.dealt with during the yèar. A donation of signing on books and Minut6 Books relating to Wharnecliffe Silkstone Colliery was made from the Archive to Sheffield Cty Archive, consolidating that material with other material relating to the colliery already held by Sheffield City Archive. Covid-19 restrictions have severely reslricted access to our Archive, both for members and the general public, during the year. However, once reslriclions were relaxed, 8 Covid compliant system was inlroduced to rmit, albeit limited access under controlled conditions. TAR Aarch 2012
