Sunflowers Suicide Su rt of the Trustees for the Year Ended 31 March 2025 The trustees present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 March 2025. The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporbng by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicabb in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 1021 {effecb've 1 January 2019). OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES Objectlves and aims The obj8cls of the CIO are to relieve the mental and physical sickn6ss of people bereaved by suicide ar)d thos8 at risk of suicide by provision of courbselling and support. To advance Ihe education of th8 public in all areas relating to suicide and suicide bereavement. in particular but not exdusiv8ly among health prof8ssionals and those who work with people bereaved by suicide or at risk of suicidè. To meet the needs and break the isolation of those bereaved by the suicide of a close relative or friend, by offering a saf& confidential enwronment in which bereaved people can share their experiences and feelings. Consequently giving and gaining support from each other. To promote greater awareness for professionals to help them recognise Ihe sp8cific support required for those bereaved by suicide. statamont on Publlc Benefft The trustees are aware of the Public Benefrt provisions of the Charities Act 2011 and of the guidance on them published by the Charity Commission. They are satisfied that the objects of the charity and the activities of the charity are within the definitions of Charitable Purposes sel down in the Act. The trustees are not aware of any public detriment caus8d by the charivs objects or adivities, nor are th8y aware of anyone receiving private benefit from th8 charity's activities. Grant maklng The Chanty 18 not a grant making charity and does not invite grant appIl￿tionS. Voluntegr$ The Charity have a leam of volunteers that have assisted in the operations of the Charity. During Ihis perl¢xI. volunteer roles have included administrative 5UPPOrt, coordinating sunshine boxes, coordinating support packs, Cleaning of our offices. SUPPOrt at our bereavement events and peer facililalion of our bereavemeni groups. We also have a team of volunteers as part of the fundraising committee who plan and deliver all of the Sunflowers led fundraising events. ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE Charitable activities The total donations received during the period totalled £120.581 with the remaining income being generated from th8 fees from events and talks £83,854 and grants of £192,179. The expenditur6 totalled £385.698 resulting in the excess of receipts over payments of £17,711 12024.. £33,250). The charitvs principal sources of income remain diverse, including individual and CA)rporale donations, restricted grants. and income generated from internal fundraising activities, training sessions and community events. This funding diversity aligns with our strategic objective to protect the chariws future sustainability by reducing reliance on any single income stream. During the financial year 2024125, Sunflowers Suicid8 Support received restricted income from the Bamwood Trust, Stroud Hospital L8ague of Friends, and the National Govemrnenl Suicide Prevention Fund. We also received a second instalment from the National Lottery Community Fund, and additional incom8 from the Awards for All programme. Our fundraising events, including Chas8 th8 Sun, Wing Walk, Soul Night, and The Greatest Sunflower Ball, generated over £63,OW. This reflects a significant increase in event income and highlights the strength of Communty engagement wth our cause. Investment pollcy and objectlves The charity aiffls to balance accessibility with prudent financial st8wardship. Most funds during 2024125 were held in an instant-access charity savings account to ensure availability of liquid ass8ts and gen8rat8 maximurn bank interest income. To optimise retums while managing risk, a portion of our funds will be Iransferred lo a Charity Notice account in 2025126. This mové will allow us to secure high8r interest rates while spreading risk across multiple financial institutions. The Trustee5 have set a reserves target equivalent to between three and six months, core running costs (currently £112,OCrf)-£224,000). Summary of the flnanclal year In 2024125, Sunflowers experienced signffjcant financial and service growth. Total income increased by 280/0 to £403,409, driven by growth in individual donalions. grant funding, evènt income, and bank interest. This increase in income was met wtth a 37% increase in expenditure 1£385,698}, reflecling strategic investment in staffing, infrastructure, and service delivery in response to increased demand. A modest surplus of£17,711 was achieved. Our year-end reserves of £239,859, of which £170,000 are unr8Strict8d, d8monstrat8 a sound rinancial wsilion. A portion of these reserves is already allo¢aled to core development work as oullined in our strategic plan. While the charity has grown, the Truslees remain mindful of rising costs-particularly staff salaries-and the need for sustsined income to mairbtain this positlV8 tr8jectory. We continue to actively fundraise lo meet the 2025126 funding requirement of £447,000, with a focus on core ServI￿S and programme delivery. The Sunflowers Suicide Support was re9iStered with the Charity Commission as a charity on 21 February 2018. Any new trustees are invited by agreement of the existing trustees having du8 regard to Ihe skills, knowledge and experience required for the effective administration of the Charity. Organlsatlonal structuro There are currently six trustees and approximalely thirty charity volunteers.
