FINANCIAL REVIEW
Principal funding sources
Sunflowers Suicide Support has had a su¢c8ssful financial year, achieving notable growth in both
income and service delivery. The charitvs principal sources of income remain diverse, including
individual and CA)rporale donations, restricted grants. and income generated from internal
fundraising activities, training sessions and community events. This funding diversity aligns with
our strategic objective to protect the chariws future sustainability by reducing reliance on any
single income stream.
During the financial year 2024125, Sunflowers Suicid8 Support received restricted income from the
Bamwood Trust, Stroud Hospital L8ague of Friends, and the National Govemrnenl Suicide
Prevention Fund. We also received a second instalment from the National Lottery Community
Fund, and additional incom8 from the Awards for All programme.
Our fundraising events, including Chas8 th8 Sun, Wing Walk, Soul Night, and The Greatest
Sunflower Ball, generated over £63,OW. This reflects a significant increase in event income and
highlights the strength of Communty engagement wth our cause.
Investment pollcy and objectlves
The charity aiffls to balance accessibility with prudent financial st8wardship. Most funds during
2024125 were held in an instant-access charity savings account to ensure availability of liquid
ass8ts and gen8rat8 maximurn bank interest income. To optimise retums while managing risk, a
portion of our funds will be Iransferred lo a Charity Notice account in 2025126. This mové will allow
us to secure high8r interest rates while spreading risk across multiple financial institutions.
The Charity Is In a period of grovrth and therefore will continue to see an increas8 in investing
fiJnds in thè operations of the Charity to develop infrastructure and manpow&r in accordance with
the incr8asing dèmand it conlinues to see.

FINANCIAL REVIEW
Reserves policy
Sunflow8rs Suicide Support holds unr8Strictéd r8S8rv8S to 8nsure financial stability. protect core
services, and support sustainable growth. The charitys policy is to maintain reseNes within
prudent range that rèflacts both opèrational neèds and straiegi¢ ambitions.
The Trustee5 have set a reserves target equivalent to between three and six months, core running
costs (currently £112,OCrf)-£224,000). This range is designed to provide a safgty nel in the event of
unexpected Incom8 loss, while all¢)wing sufficient time to implement recovery strategies.
A proportion of reserves had been and continue to be designated for strategic initlatives aimed at
enhancing the charitys lon*tenn capacAty. Investments include improvements to IT systems and
safeguarding pro￿sses, expansion of fundraising capabilities, relocation to new offices lo meet
service demand, and staff development. These initiatives are difficult to fund through grants and
demonstrate Sunflowers, commitment to using reserves to strengthen infrastructure and sustain
service delivery.
As of th8 year4nd, the charity holds £170,oc() In unr8slricted res8rv8s. This Is within the target
range and r8fl8Cts th8 Trustees. confidence in the charivs diversified funding base and financial
r8silience. Th8 r8serv8s are not considered 8xcessive and are r8Vi8W8d quarterfy to ensure
alignment with risk. operating costs. and growth plans.
The Trustees consider the current level of reserves lo be appropriate and r8sponsibl8, SUPPOrting
both the immediate Gontinuity of services and the Charit￿5 future devebpment. This approach
ensurgs that Sunflowers remains resilienl, adaptable. and capable of meeting the growing n88d for
sui¢lde pr8vention and b8r8av8m8nt supwrt across the region.
Summary of the flnanclal year
In 2024125, Sunflowers experienced signffjcant financial and service growth. Total income
increased by 280/0 to £403,409, driven by growth in individual donalions. grant funding, evènt
income, and bank interest.
This increase in income was met wtth a 37% increase in expenditure 1£385,698}, reflecling
strategic investment in staffing, infrastructure, and service delivery in response to increased
demand. A modest surplus of£17,711 was achieved.
Our year-end reserves of £239,859, of which £170,000 are unr8Strict8d, d8monstrat8 a sound
rinancial wsilion. A portion of these reserves is already allo¢aled to core development work as
oullined in our strategic plan. While the charity has grown, the Truslees remain mindful of rising
costs-particularly staff salaries-and the need for sustsined income to mairbtain this positlV8
tr8jectory.
We continue to actively fundraise lo meet the 2025126 funding requirement of £447,000, with a
focus on core ServI￿S and programme delivery. The Trustees are confident that our strong
performance, robust reserves policy, and detailed funding strategy will reassure current and
prospeclive supporters of Sunflowers, capacity to deliver high-impact, financially sustainable
Servi￿S.
