As a member of the Third A8e Trust it follows the overall alm to Learn, Live and Laugh. In furtherance of this object we have set up a number of interest groups where members Can share thelr knowledge and enthusiasm for è wide range ofsubjects with fellow members on a voluntary basis and we have developed a programme of stimulating speakers, interest group meetin85 and outlngs. Achlevements slnce formatlon Upmlnster U3A was launched to potentlal members in October 2016 and both member and interest group numbers have continued to grow since then. Taxatlon Upmlnster u3a Is exempt from corporation tax on Its charftable actlvlttes. Reserve$ The Trustees reviewed the pollry wlth regard to ReseNes and agreed to contlnue wlth formally approved policy to retaln the £ICQO 'dlsaster recovery reserrfe, and to continue with a formal reserve of £5LKJ to cover any potentlal losses on coach trlps and to retain unrestrirted reserve5 sufflclent to cover 30% of our unavoldable expenditure for one year ahead. In the year under revlew, as In the previous financial year, a reser4es reductlon plan was Implemented by d15countlng renewal membershlp fees with the Intentlon that unrestrlcted reserves would be used to partially fund our general operatin8 expenses. After a further review the trustees declded to contlnue wlth the discounted membership renewal fee polioi to try to reduce these reserves.
