The Trustees have pleasure In presentlng thelr report wlth the financlal ststements of Upminster u3a for the
year from 01 April 2023 to 31 March 2024.
Upminster u3a is an independent reglstered charlty, Reglstered Charlty Number 1176469. It Is afflllated to
the Third Age Trust. Registered Charity Number 288Crf)7.
Upmlnster u3a has no offlces and employs no staff.

We operate under a fomial constltutlon. based on a template documerrt pro¥lded byThe Thlrd A8e Trust and
adopted by the members at our AGM on June 20 2017 and amended at our AGM on June 19 2018.
The maln object of Upminster U3A Is for the educatlon and 50clal developmenL In partleular people who are
retlred from full tlme work. by all mean5 including associated acttvtties conducive to learning and personal
development In Upminster and Its surroundlng locality. As a member of the Third A8e Trust it follows the
overall alm to Learn, Live and Laugh. In furtherance of this object we have set up a number of interest groups
where members Can share thelr knowledge and enthusiasm for è wide range ofsubjects with fellow members
on a voluntary basis and we have developed a programme of stimulating speakers, interest group meetin85
and outlngs.
Achlevements slnce formatlon
Upmlnster U3A was launched to potentlal members in October 2016 and both member and interest group
numbers have continued to grow since then. At the end of the financial yearthere were 632 paid up members
and 54 interest groups.

The financial statements have been prepared under the hlstorlcal cost conventlon In accordance
with FRS 102 Issued by the Charity Commlsslon of England and Wales
Income and Expendlture
Income and expendlture are accounted for on an accrual basls.
Taxatlon
Upmlnster u3a Is exempt from corporation tax on Its charftable actlvlttes.
Reserve$
The Trustees reviewed the pollry wlth regard to ReseNes and agreed to contlnue wlth formally
approved policy to retaln the £ICQO 'dlsaster recovery reserrfe, and to continue with a formal
reserve of £5LKJ to cover any potentlal losses on coach trlps and to retain unrestrirted reserve5
sufflclent to cover 30% of our unavoldable expenditure for one year ahead.
In the year under revlew, as In the previous financial year, a reser4es reductlon plan was
Implemented by d15countlng renewal membershlp fees with the Intentlon that unrestrlcted reserves
would be used to partially fund our general operatin8 expenses. After a further review the trustees
declded to contlnue wlth the discounted membership renewal fee polioi to try to reduce these
reserves. The level of reserves to be kept will be revSewed again in the current flnancial year.

Upminster u3a's Trustees are responslble forthe preparation of the accounts. The Trustees consider
that an audit is not requlred but that an Independent examinationls required.
It Is my responslblllty to examine the accounts and to state rf any partlcular matters have come to
my attentlon.

In connertlon with my examlnation no matter has come to my attentlon whlth glves me cause to
belleve that In any materlal respect the requirements to keep accountlng records and to prepare
accounts in accord wlth those records have not been complled wlth.
There is no matter to whlch attentlon should be drawn to enable a proper understandlng of these
accounts.
