Following discussions
between Seven

it was agreed to continue to support
Welbeck Academy (located
in Walker

with and additional

which were then developed
and delivered
by

The activities undertaken
during the autumn
and spring terms ofthe 2021/22 academic
year were outlined
in the Trustees annual
report for that period, however as the
summer
term ofthese programmes
fell
within the current
reporting
period we outline
the activities undertaken
in them below.
Pupils from Welbeck Academy explored the
story "My Dad's a Birdman" written
by David
Almond
and illustrated
by Polly Dunbar,
sharing a few chapters ofthe bird each week
and taking part in discussion
sessions which
included
illustrations
and authors notes from
the book held
in the Seven Stories
collection, some ofwhich were original items
brought
in by their archivist for the pupils to
'white glove' handle.
In later sessions
pupils
were inspired to take part in creative writing
activities inspired
by the book and to create
their own characters for inclusion
in collages
they designed
for inclusion
in colourful
folders for them to display and share their
work at the end ofterm with their families.
Meanwhile,
pupils at St. Lawrence's
RC
Primary School took part in several creative
writing exercises inspired
by their earlier visit
to Seven Stories, exploring
the collection
and the genesis of how stories come about
as well as reading the book "Don't Cook
Cinderella"
written
by Francesca Simon and
illustrated
by Tony Ross. At the end ofthe
summer
term James Harris (author of "The
Unbelievable
Biscuit Factory")visited the
school and delivered
an assembly
and
workshops
which focussed on what had led
to him becoming
an author, taking questions
and answers
from the pupils and helping
them create new illustrations
and stories
based upon these. At the end ofthe term
pupils
held a sharing
event in the school hall
to celebrate their achievements
from the
programme
and to present them to parents,
family and friends.
