|The activities undertaken<br>during the autumn|
|and spring terms ofthe 2021/22 academic|
|year were outlined<br>in the Trustees annual|
|report for that period, however as the|
|summer<br>term ofthese programmes<br>fell|
|within the current<br>reporting<br>period we outline|
|the activities undertaken<br>in them below.|
|Pupils from Welbeck Academy explored the|
|story "My Dad's a Birdman" written<br>by David|
|Almond<br>and illustrated<br>by Polly Dunbar,|
|sharing a few chapters ofthe bird each week|
|and taking part in discussion<br>sessions which|
|included<br>illustrations<br>and authors notes from|
|the book held<br>in the Seven Stories|
|collection, some ofwhich were original items|
|brought<br>in by their archivist for the pupils to|
|'white glove' handle.<br>In later sessions<br>pupils|
|were inspired to take part in creative writing|
|activities inspired<br>by the book and to create|
|their own characters for inclusion<br>in collages|
|they designed<br>for inclusion<br>in colourful|
|folders for them to display and share their|
|work at the end ofterm with their families.|
|Meanwhile,<br>pupils at St. Lawrence's<br>RC|
|Primary School took part in several creative|
|writing exercises inspired<br>by their earlier visit|
|to Seven Stories, exploring<br>the collection|
|and the genesis of how stories come about|
|as well as reading the book "Don't Cook|
|Cinderella"<br>written<br>by Francesca Simon and|
|illustrated<br>by Tony Ross. At the end ofthe|
|summer<br>term James Harris (author of "The|
|Unbelievable<br>Biscuit Factory")visited the|
|school and delivered<br>an assembly<br>and|
|workshops<br>which focussed on what had led|
|to him becoming<br>an author, taking questions|
|and answers<br>from the pupils and helping|
|them create new illustrations<br>and stories|
|based upon these. At the end ofthe term|
|pupils<br>held a sharing<br>event in the school hall|
|to celebrate their achievements<br>from the|
|programme<br>and to present them to parents,|
|family and friends.|
