Achievements and Performance

Summary of the main achievements of the charity, identifying the difference the charity’s work has made to the circumstances of its beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a whole (SORP para 1.20).

Patient well-being after breast cancer diagnosis and treatment is an important element of the Charity’s work. The charity supports an acupuncture service and fitness classes for patients with secondary breast cancer. We continue to maintain a petty cash system at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells Breast clinics, which allows us to purchase items for elderly and vulnerable patients such as a taxi home or a surgical support garment.

This year the charity agreed to fund a 2-year MRes degree for a breast surgical research fellow at The University of Kent under the supervision of Professor Michelle Garrett in collaboration with Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells Breast Unit and the Kent Oncology Centre. The research aims to monitor the response of triple-negative breast cancer to upfront chemotherapy using high-resolution contrast enhanced ultrasound and tumour biomarkers of cancer growth and blood vessel formation.
