(1) The promotion of community participation in healthy recreation in London, Essex, Norfolk and Tyne and Wear ("the area of benefit"), in particular by the provision of facilities and instruction / education for the participating in the sport of karate;

(2) The provision of facilities for the instruction and education of karate in the area of benefit provided in the interests of social welfare, for individuals who have by reason of their age, disability, financial hardship or social circumstances a lesser opportunity to participate in sport and more particularly karate with the object of improving their conditions of life; and (3) Such other charitable purposes connected with the instruction of karate, which the trustees in their absolute discretion deem appropriate from time to time.

During the year under review the Yamaguichi Goju Kai Karate-Do Association (“YGKA”) began to provide charitable activities within the objects of its Constitution. Funds have been received from a Lottery grant of £9,900. The funding was used to introduce karate to young people in a bid to build their selfconfidence their social awareness, sense of social responsibility, reduce social-isolation and improve general wellbeing. The project was targeted at community members including those who are BAME disabled and socio-economically excluded. In addition, South Tyneside Council donated £1,000 towards the travel costs of children attending karate competitions.
