This document will outline the annual trustees report and financial statement of Debre Selam Medhanealem Cardiff from 15/09/2021 to 14/09/2022.
Our Aims
The purpose of our organisation entails advancement of the Orthodox Tewahdo religion in Wales (particularly Cardiff & Newport areas) throughout, holding prayers, Sunday services and fulfil the mission of Christ.
Objectives and activities
Our main objectives is to allow our members to practice the Eritrean Orthodox religion by:

Educating children about the religion and their culture- by holding separate weekly classes during Sunday services.

Empowering members’ spiritual life- through bible studies and preachings.

Enabling members to practise their religious duties- such as marriages, christenings, funerals etc.

Providing pastoral care to members.
Management of the charity
Trustee’s appointment
The trustees were appointed during an annual congregation, where all members were present and had a vote in who they wanted to become a trustee of the charity. This was purely based on the polls conducted during the meeting and every member had equal chance of becoming a trustee.
A charity trustee who has served for three consecutive terms may not be reappointed after an interval of at least one year . The trustee reappointment is carried out in the same way as the initial appointment.
Governing document
Our charity is registered with CIO (registration no. 1175110) and is governed by its governing document dated 20[th] of January 2018.

- Review of activities from 15/09/2021 14/09/2022
The organisation has been holding a weekly service every Sunday, where the gospel is preached to the members to ensure they have a great understanding of their faith. A number of holy masses have been held for special occasions such as weddings, christenings and funerals exclusively for the members. To date, there have been 4 weddings and 25 christenings. A separate service have been allocated for our youth and children to learn about their culture, language and religion. Additionally, the trustees have been assigned the task of searching for a church to buy. This is because we are using a rented church, where we are experiencing time-constraints.
