Myanmar and internationally.

activities in relation to those
purposes for the public
benefit, in particular, the
activities, projects or
services identified in the
accounts.
Para 1.17 and
1.19
After navigating a difficult year due to the
coronavirus pandemic, The Kite Tales
Foundation, like many other organisations
working on Myanmar, had to confront a very
challenging period after the country’s military
forcibly took power in a coup on Feb 1, 2021.
This meant the co-founders had to again
suspend activities and planned trips.
As the situation in Myanmar worsened, with
large-scale protests followed by armed clashes
across vast swathes of the country, the co-
founders decided to contribute to the
international community’s understanding of
Myanmar by chronicling the experiences of
ordinary citizens taking part in the protests (or)
are affected by the coup.
In line with the educational and public benefit
purposes of the Foundation set out in our
governing document, we sought to highlight a
diverse set of voices and how the political
upheaval was affecting marginalised
communities and those with different cultural
and social histories.
This was done through secure communication
channels with people in Myanmar so that their
safety is not compromised.
The co-founders also spoke at multiple
discussions on Myanmar.
Statement confirming
whether the trustees have
had regard to the guidance
issued by the Charity
Commission on public
benefit
Para 1.18 This is to confirm the trustees have regard to
the guidance issued by the Charity
Commission on public benefit.

achievements of the charity,

charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 This was a difficult year for any organisations
working in Myanmar. However, the co-
founders of The Kite Tales, particularly Thin
Lei Win, was interviewed by international
media and civil society groups to speak out
on Myanmar.
The personal, anonymous stories by
ordinary people, which we published in both
Burmese and English, were widely shared
across social media.
The co-founders were also invited by The
Organization of Asian American Sisters in
Service (OAASIS) and Students for
Myanmar, set by up Harvard University
Students, for a virtual discussion about
Myanmar and The Kite Tales on April 17,
2021.
Both our website and the our social media
presence continue to grow, and The Kite
Tales provided crucial, first-person accounts
of what is happening in Myanmar,
particularly after the global attention had
shifted away from the country.
