STRUCTURE,GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT
NetherthongPre-SchoolandOutof School ClubisaCharitableIncorporatedOrganisation,which was
registeredwiththeCharityCommissionon2ndAugust2017.isgovernedby theEarlyYears
AllianceModelConstitution2013whichwas adoptedon29thSeptember2017.
Recruitment and appointment of new Trustees
The appointment oftrusteesisgovernedbytheconstitutionandisbasedontheelectionby
membersortrustees.Priortoappointmentastrustees,allcandidatesmustpasstherelevant
disclosureandbarringservice(DBS)checks.
OBJECTIVESAND ACTIVITIES
Toenhancethedevelopmentandeducationofchildrenprimarilyunderstatutoryschoolage
byencouragingparentstounderstandandprovidefortheneedsoftheirchildrenthrough
communitygroups andby:
a)Offeringappropriateplay,educationandcarefacilities,familylearningandholiday
clubs,togetherwiththerightofparentstotake responsibilityforandtobecome
involvedintheactivitiesofsuchgroups,ensuringthatsuchgroupsofferopportunities
forallchildrenwhatever theirrace,culture,religion,meansorability:
b) Encouragingthestudyoftheneedsofsuchchildrenandtheirfamiliesandpromoting
publicinterestinandrecognitionofsuchneedsinthelocalareas;
c)InstigatingandadheringtoandfurtheringtheaimsandobjectsoftheEarlyYears
Alliance.
Significantactivities
Preventionorrelieffrompoverty:
Byprovisionoflowcostandaccessibleearlyyearseducationtolocalresidents.Thisalso
helpsmake employmentmoreviableforparentsofyoungchildren.Thepre-schoolprovides
alocalplatformforparentstotake advantageofgovernmentfundingforearlyyears'
education.It islikelythatlesswell-offfamilieswould beunable tousethisfundingifthey
hadtotraveltothenearestotherearlyyears'providerswhichareat somedistance.

Byprovisionofearlyyears'education.
Theadvancementofhealth:
Byprovisionofinformationabout healthylivingandexerciseandoutdooractivityforyoung
children.

Insettingourobjectivesandplanningouractivitiesour trusteeshavegivenseriousconsiderationto
the CharityCommission'sgeneralguidance onpublicbenefitandinparticulartheadvancementof
education.
Achievements and performance
Westartedtheyearwithlownumbersofchildreninsettingbutwiththehardworkofourmanagement
teamandstaff wehavesuccessfullyincreasedournumberstofullcapacitybySeptember2023,
ensuringthatweareontracknowtohaveasuccessfulyearfor our charity.
WeworkedwithExpertsandMentors Programme.Ourmentors, FelicitySutcliffeandEmmaOddy,
visitedusinsettingandhelpedtocreateacontinuousimprovementplan.
Afterthis, weareveryproudto saythatour staffteamhasgrownandbecomecloseoftengivingup
theirownpersonalfamilytimetomake improvementstotheirworkingenvironment,our children
numbershavegrown,andwehaveaverypositiverelationshipwithallour parents.
Wearesogratefulforthehardworkofourstaff,thegenerosityandsupportofourcommunity,the
adviceandskillsofour volunteertrusteecommittee andthecontinuedsupportofKatie,Jane,
Gemma, AdamandAbbey.
September 2022
BeccaMorganstartedinpostasthenewPre-schoolManager,,enablingaperiodofhandover
betweenherandtheoutgoingmanager,Amy Chalesworth.Beccabringswithherawealthof
experienceinearlyyearseducationandambitiousplansforthedevelopmentoftheseting.She hit
thegroundrunningandquicklyhadavisible,positiveimpact.

Amylefther postasPreschoolManagertobeginanewcareerasapoliceofficer. WethankAmyfor
herworkduringhertimeatPreschoolandwishherallthebestinhernewrole.Thesettingwas
inspectedbyOfstedon12October 2022andthewholeteamwasthrilledtoachieveaninspection
gradeofGood'inallareas.Theinspectorfoundthatourcurriculumisambitiousandchallengingfor
thechildrenandthatstaffknowour childrenwell andhowbesttosupportthemandbuildontheir
knowledgeandskills.Theyalsohighlightedhoweffectiveourpartnershipswithparentsare,noting
thatparentsarekeptverywellinformedandareveryinvolvedinthesetting.
November2022
WerecruitedJeanetteTaylortojoinourteamasanEarlyYearsPractitioner.Wecelebratedchildren
inneedwitha pyjamadayinpre-schoolwhereallchildrenandstaffdressedinpyjamastoraise
awarenessforthecharity.Wehadthewoodpanellinginstalledonthesideofthebuildingtoimprove
safetyandstrengthofbuildingby Michael Beever.

ThenativitytookplaceatAllSaintsChurchinNetherthong,withjust11childrenandtheirfamilies
availablefortheevent,we didn'traiseasmuchasusual.WeheldaChristmas partyforallchildren.

BeaumontParkandraised£60fromparentdonationsandhadadonationfromOne 17Design
CharitableTrust,which matchedourfundraisinggoalof£375,totalling£435.Weusedthismoneyto
buynewtuff trays,asmallgreenhouseandapicnicbenchforoutside.
Weheldagardening projectoneweekendandcompletelyrenovatedthefrontgardenarea of the
settingprovidinguswithraisedandlowbedsforgrowingour own produceforsnackinsetting.Thank

We wereable torun our holidayclubeveryweekover the6weeksholidaysprovidingour familiesof
thesettingwithmuchneededsummerchildcare.Wehadthewholemainclassroomareaofthe
setingre-decoratedbyBrettatBTDecorating.We hadthecarpettilesreplacedwithlovelygrey
safetyflooringbyHolmfirthFlooring.
Thankyoutoallthestaffteamwhostayedformanylatenightsandcameinearlymornings tomake
suretheclassroom wascleanandorganisedforallthe childrenattendingduringholidayclubduring
allthework.
Ofsted
ThesettingwasinspectedbyOfstedinOctober 2022andwas judged 'Good' inallareas.This
achievementistestamenttothededicationandhard workofthewholePreschoolteamin
implementingtherecommendationsmadebyOfstedandputtinga robustactionplaninplace.Steps
takenincludedadditionaltrainingofthewiderteam(includingtrustees)onsafeguarding,reviewof
childtrackingandnextsteps planning,andfindingnewwaystobetterengagewithparentsand
carers.

Wewouldliketosincerelythankthewholeteamwho have gone aboveandbeyondingettingthe
OfstedratingbacktoGood.Allmembersofthestaff teamhaveshowndedicationandcommitmentto
achieve ourrating,oftentakingonextrahours forcoveroradditionalresponsibilitiesandgoingthe
extramileinbeing flexiblearoundtheneedsofthechildren.
Building
Duringtheyearrepairsweremadetotheexistingbuildingtoshore upthefabricofthebuilding,
refurbishtheinteriorandextenditsuseforafewmoreyears.Thereis along-termaspirationto
replacethebuildingtoincludefundraisingandpossiblefinanceofanewbuilding,withatemporary
relocationofthepreschoolduringthebuildingwork.
Thereareplanstoobtainaprofessionalsurvey ofthebuildinginSpringnextyeartofullyunderstand
theconditionandremaininglifespanofthestructure.Thiswillinformanyfurtherinvestmentrequired
intheexistingbuildingandallowamoredetailedstrategyaroundthefuturereplacement ofthe
buildingtobedeveloped.
Looking forward
The'Good' Ofsted judgementandmuchimprovedreputationofPreschoolhasseenournumbers
continuetogrow. InSeptember2022wehadacohortof19childrenonregister,inSeptember2023we
had36 childrenonregisterwithanother16duetostartover thenextyear.Wenowonlyhavespaces
availablefromSeptember2024.
Weanticipatewewillhave22 childrenleavingustogotoNetherthong PrimarySchoolinSeptember
2024,soBeccaandthePreschool teamareworkingverycloselywithEmmaOddythereception
teachertoensurethatallofour childrenleavewellprepared andhappytostartschool.
The teamoftrusteeswillcontinuetosupportin anadvisoryandaccountabilitycapacity.Wesay thank
youandgoodbyetotwo trusteeswhoareretiringattheNovemberAGM: JaneLimaand GemmaSharp.
Thankyouforyour timeandhardworkinyour volunteeringroles.
Financial Overview
Significantworkhasbeenundertaken inthepreviousfinancialyeartoincreasepupilnumbersandwe
arenowatpupilcapacityfortheremainder ofthefinancialyearandwearelookingatstrongpupil
numbersalreadyfor24/25.
Thecharitycurrentlyholdsreservesof£41kandtheaimofthecharityistoatleastbreak-even on
operationalcostswithoutneedingtosubsidiserunningcostswiththesereserves.Unfortunately,the
accountingstatements fortheyear to31stAugust2023showthatthishasnotbeenachieveddueto
lowpupilnumbersat thestartofthefinancialyear.Itishoweverplannedthattheshortfallwillbe made
upinthecurrentfinancialyear.
TheTrusteeshaveagreedthatthePre-School shouldideallyhaveunrestrictedreservesequaltothe
sumof6monthsrunningcosts.ThisisinordertoprotectthePre-Schoolagainstanyunforeseen
changesinfunding,pupilnumbersorotherevents.Anyamountsbuiltupabovethisaretobeused
againstthecapitalrepairsandmaintenanceofthePre-Schoolbuildingwhichrequiressignificant
investmentoverthenextfewyears.
Duringthe2022/2023financialyearrepairshavebeenmadetotheexistingbuildingcosting
approximately£9,000withfurtherworkplannedintotheschoolyear.Fundingforthisworkwillbe taken
fromthereservesoranysurplusgenerated fromthepreschool.
StaffpaywasincreasedinApil2023by9.8%acrosstheboardinlinewiththeincreasein the national
living wage,apayreviewfor existingstaffwillagainbeconductedinSpring2024.
