OBJECTIVES
The Group is to support men on the Isle of Wight who suffer from prostate cancer. We support the men and their families and advise them of health and wellbeing, especially if other men in their family have been diagnosed with prostate cancer, or have a family history.
MAIN OBJECTIVES
Work on a voluntary basis to raise funds to enable the Group to raise awareness for men and their families. To give non-medical support to men on the Isle of Wight, their partners and families. To inform them of prostate cancer treatments, side effects and after care.
We have a website to inform men and their families all about our Group.
We have a regular Newsletter, which is sent to all our Members by email, by post in printed form, if required. It is also available on our website. Contained in our Newsletter are reports on medical data, information on understanding prostate cancer, plus details of our awareness events, and our future events and much more.
We have one to one counselling, if required, to discuss worries, needs, experiences, and to answer questions about any worries or treatment concerns.
We have a dedicated 24/7 mobile phone number.

We have monthly Support Meetings for men, their families and carers, where our Members can meet and chat to each other. Each month at the Support Meetings we have guest speakers covering a wide range of subjects from medical, health and wellbeing to entertainment. We also hold monthly ladies meetings for wives and partners.
As part of our wellbeing activities, we have our own band called “Lifeline” which plays at venues and care homes and raises awareness of our Charity. This year we have started a Ukulele band from our membership, and this has helped members learn to play a musical instrument. The effort put into their new learning has a positive impact on their lives and wellbeing.
We have leaflets and flyers which we produce and hand out to our members and the general public, to help them become aware of prostate cancer and the importance of being tested. Our group promotes PSA blood testing, as there is not a programme for screening men in the UK for prostate cancer.
Our members are either prostate cancer patients, their families or carers. All our events are organised and run by volunteers. There are organisations, companies and other clubs and charities that support our group, by giving us donations and allowing us to use their premises to hold events.
SUMMARY OF MAIN ACHIEVEMENTS
The group has arranged and held 5 PSA blood testing events this year, where approximately 2,000 men have been tested, with 10% of the men requiring further medical attention.
All of the men who have a PSA blood test with us are given a full range of the leaflets that we produce for their information.
The group organised a Christmas Lunch for the Members of the IWPCSG and a Summer Social for all the Volunteers of the PSA events and awareness events, who wished to attend.
There were 11 Members Support Meetings held in the year, on the fourth Thursday of the month, from January to November. The winter Support Meetings are in the afternoon and from April to August the Support Meetings are in the evening. There have been a variety of speakers, from health and safety professionals, to speakers on medical issues and on local history and other interests. There are also monthly Advanced Prostate Cancer Support Meetings.
There were monthly Ladies Meetings for wives or partners of prostate cancer patients.
Regular Newsletters were produced and sent to Members.
We continue to do awareness events at local supermarkets, garden centres and Isle of Wight shows.
We also support Members to go to Wellbeing events, run by professionals, being Yoga, Tai Chi and exercise classes.
