|---|---|---|
| Summary of the purposes of the charity as set out in its governing document |
Para 1.17 | To promote community participation in healthy recreation by providing facilities for playing rugby union football and other sports. To provide facilities for sport, recreation and other leisure time activities in the interests of social welfare and improving quality of life for the public at large and other groups that have need for such facilities. To advance the education of children and young persons as the Directors think fit. |
| Summary of the main activities in relation to those purposes for the public benefit, in particular, the activities, projects or services identified in the accounts. |
Para 1.17 and 1.19 |
Rugby Union football is played from September to April. There are a number of teams playing at Senior, Junior and Mini level. The Club also has a Ladies team, which has had a mixed year but more importantly has had fun. During the summer Cricket is played from April to September. The Clubhouse provides facilities for the wider Community, eg providing a venue for the local Slimming World group. It is able to host training events to support its activities, eg First Aid and Safeguarding courses. The Cranbrook Men’s Shed is based at the clubhouse and has continued to grow as a service. A comment from one of the Men’s Shed members: ‘it’s been a life saver’ The Club is working to increase the activities available. In February 2024, and in partnership with Highgate Hawkhurst WI, we launched Ladies Walking rugby, which has seen 15 ladies |
| atending, learning how to play and of course, enjoying cofee and cake aferwards. Most of the ladies had never been in a rugby club before, so this is a great RFU initatve for us to be part of, and thanks must go to Rachel Fagg, as Chair of the WI for her commitment to the walking rugby, as well as thanks to Tim Fagg, our President, for coaching the sessions. This year has benefted from a big injecton from s106 monies thanks to the hard work of certain club members and that has enabled us to invest in new machinery and major ground improvements |

| Contribution made by volunteers |
Para 1.38 | The Club employs a Director of Rugby and a Club Steward on a part-time basis. There are some paid weekend bar/kitchen sessional workers. Other than that, the Club is run entirely by volunteers, both in relation to sporting activities, managing the Clubhouse and Grounds, administration/governance and for additional help in the bar and kitchen as needed. Ground and clubhouse maintenance are carried out by volunteers although contractors are brought in as required for more substantial works. The volunteer support from everyone during the season has been considerable. Without Club volunteers, events would not have been the successes that they have been. Lunches and events raised approx £13,200 during the year. |
Six lunches were held, all well attended. The Christmas lunch had over 170 people enjoying the festivities None of the clubs’ successes would be possible without every single one of the club volunteers, be it coaches, first aiders, team managers, helpers in the kitchen or bar, the grounds team, physios, but also to the club committee and the Club Steward. In relation to cricket, summer 2023 saw over 75 Other children, aged 5 to 13, enjoying Sunday soft and hard ball cricket training. Three cricket camps were held at the club and cricket tournaments were attended by the various age groups. The U13 boys had a great season, culminating in them winning the Weald of Kent Cup Final by eight wickets. The planning permission for the new clubhouse will be submitted to Tunbridge Wells Borough Council in June 2024. The launch of the club’s vision and plans for the new clubhouse were well received at the end of season lunch, and to club members that were not at the lunch in the following weeks. Fundraising is key, which must be a whole club effort and the Clubhouse Development team will be coordinating this to start in earnest as soon as the planning decision is received. This new building will not only have a massive impact on how we are able to run as a club, but also to the Cranbrook town community - it must be seen as a community asset moving forward. Numbers attending the senior men’s touch and pre- season training last summer were good, and this continued to be the case throughout the season on both Tuesday and Thursday nights. Recruitment went well, and it was great to see a good number of players returning to the club following the end of their Uni studies. Despite the good numbers at training, Saturday availability due to work and family commitments was a challenge and unfortunately it was decided to withdraw the Nomads from their league and to concentrate on friendly matches for the remainder of the season. Following a brilliant win over Crowborough in the last match of the season, the 1XV finished the season in 10[th] place in the Counties 1 Kent league. The Nomads also finished the season in style with a very
impressive win at home against Gillingham Anchorians and are looking forward to playing their rugby in the Kent A Rural league in September. The last 3 weeks have seen over 60 seniors, colts and older juniors at each of the summer touch sessions, with a few new faces too. Despite the mixed results for the men this season, we must congratulate the men’s captains Hamish Gillanders, Fabian Rimmer, Josh Parkes and Elliot Barbour for the great role models they have been this season to the young squad that we have, as well as to our Director of Rugby Chris Catt and the men’s coaches, Josh Pankhurst, Matt Franklin and Toby Freeman. The ladies also had good numbers at pre- season last summer, but it was soon apparent that the league commitments and standard was going to be a step too far for the squad, which had quite a few new players to the game. It was therefore agreed to withdraw from the league and join forces with Maidstone ladies, who were also struggling. This was a good arrangement that allowed our ladies to play in a lower league and gain a lot of valuable match experience. The ladies held a RFU Inner Warrior recruitment event and have gained a number of new players across the last 6 months and are looking forward to re- entering the RFU leagues in September as a Cranbrook Ladies team. The ladies enjoyed a tour to Barcelona in September, bringing home the silverware for the second year in a row. A massive thanks and congratulations must go to Lyndsey and Nigel Posey, Des Amanono and captain Shanie Watson for their continued hard work and drive with the ladies section. The Falcons (Colts) section has continued to go from strength to strength, with the new “Jaeger Log” up for grabs during friendly matches with opposition clubs, and have won most matches and only suffered one heavy defeat. Numbers have been good across the whole season, and the boys seem to appreciate being treated as a greater part of the club, with mid-week training, playing on Sands and social media team selection all contributing to that. The Juniors had a great season with 30 friendly matches played, as well as the competitive games in the Kent Waterfall, League and 7s competitions. Match results across the age
groups have been very encouraging, and show what talent there is amongst the squads. Numbers have been good at all age groups, with new players recruited even at the end of the season. The U14s and U15s both had very enjoyable and successfully tours towards the end of the season. The minis have seen also seen good numbers, again with new children turning up for training in the last few weeks of the season. They also had a good mix of joint training session with other clubs, as well as attending festivals throughout the year, culminating with the Kent Age Group Festivals, where all reports back were very positive. Father Christmas made an appearance at the Christmas Party (he must change his boots next year!!), and the Fergy Gask Cup inter age group tournament was not only a great success but saw the Minis raising over £600 in memory of Fergy, which was donated to the Armed Forces charity. The Minis’ end of season tour to Leicester was enjoyed by all of the youngest members, and maybe the not so young members
The junior girls continue to play as affiliated teams with TJ’s and Tunbridge Wells, seeing these joint club teams have good successes across the season, with the U14s being crowned Kent champions, and the U16 Weald Warriors team winning the 7s Kent plate competition.

Independent Examiner's report to the
COMMITTEE MEMBERS OF CRANBROOK SPORTS CLUB Charity Number 1172923
I report on the accounts of the charity for the year ended 30 April 2024 which are set out on pages 4 to 9.
Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner
The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed. It is my responsibility to:
• examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act
• follow the procedures laid down m the General Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act and
• state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of independent examiner's report
My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records, it also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and, consequently, no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a "true and fair view" and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
Independent examiner's statement
In connection with my examination no matter has come to my attention
1.Which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements
• to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the 2011 Act and
• to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the 2011 Act have not been met; or
2.To which, In my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
