volunteers
Para 1.38 Our Charity relies greatly on volunteers
for its success. The Board of Trustees
is entirely made up of volunteers who
are also members and have experience
of Breast Cancer. Our female helms are
also from our membership and
volunteers whom we have financed in
training. Our male helmsman is a non-
cancer volunteer who is also a
Coach/Trainer. We benefit from
countless hours of help from our
families, friends and local businesses
who continually support and strengthen
our team whether at home or abroad.
Other We also benefit from being able to use
the Hengistbury Head Outdoor Centre
where we store our boats and the Adult
Sailors Club who supply us with a
Safety Boat during the winter months.

Achievements and Performance

SORP reference
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20S Created two support groups to organise
a sponsored marathon paddle; and
prepare for Pink October in order to
raise awareness of breast cancer.
It was agreed with members to increase
the focus on training for our paddling
technique and stamina. To that end we
employed the services of a GB coach
who gave members individual feedback.
Improvements in performance were
evident when two Pink Champagne
teams went to the international dragon
boat festival in Barcelona and we won a
silver medal.
In addition, we joined the Bournemouth
Outriggers Canoe Club, to provide
additional training opportunities for our
members and gain experience of
paddling on the open sea.
In May and June, we had reciprocal
paddling sessions with the Swanage Gig
Rowing Club. This facilitated us
spreading the awareness of undertaking
exercise after breast cancer surgery and
also providing members with the
opportunity to have an alternative
paddling/ rowing experience.
The above events benefit our members
through improved physical fitness and
endurance, wellbeing and support for
each other as Breast Cancer survivors.
In August, we organised a sponsored
marathon paddle through Christchurch
and up and down the River Stour. It was
arranged to coincide with the annual
Christchurch Carnival whose committee
we worked very closely with and Pink
Champagne was selected as one of its
chosen charities to sponsor. We also
partook of the carnival parade and were
awarded first prize for our entry which
included towing a dragon boat through
Christchurch.
In October, we arranged for the
following buildings to be lit up in Pink
lights: Sherborne Abbey, Wimborne
Minster, The Priory Christchurch, the
library at Bournemouth University and
the Ferris Wheel on the Bournemouth

seafront. We have established a Donations page and increased our profile by setting up an Instagram page and regularly updating our Facebook profile. We have used these fundraising events as an opportunity to raise awareness of breast cancer and the side effects of treatment such as Lymphoedema. Dragon boating helps to reduce the impact of these side effects on our members’ lives.

Financial Review

Financial Review
Review of the charity’s
financial position at the end
of the period
Para 1.21 At the end of the financial year Pink
Champagne had £33,414 in its bank
accounts.
Statement explaining the
policy for holding reserves
stating why they are held
Para 1.22 Pink Champagne’s policy is to hold
sufficient reserves to cover any
unforeseen expenses that may occur
e.g. boat replacement, safety equipment,
repairs etc.
Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole
Council (BCP) is likely to transfer the
Hengistbury Head Outdoor Centre by
means of a community asset transfer to
a newly incorporated community benefit
society, with which Pink Champagne
closely works. Many of the club’s
members have become lifetime
members of the new society. We
anticipate that we will have to contribute
to the capital costs of the
redevelopment in return for reduced
future rental payments. Such a capital
contribution will come from reserves.
Funds of approximately £400 per
member are required to enter the next
IBPCC event which is to take place in
France in 2026 with 24 members in
attendance.
Coronavirus has impressed on us the
need to maintain ample reserves as we
have not been able to hold our Annual
Festival, which was our key fund raiser,
due to a lack of facilities since the
pandemic.
Amount of reserves held Para 1.22 £20,000
Reasons for holding zero
reserves
Para 1.22 N/A
Details of fund materially in
deficit
Para 1.24 N/A
Explanation of any
uncertainties about the
charity continuing as a going
concern
Para 1.23 There are no uncertainties about Pink
Champagne continuing to operate.

risks facing the charity

relates to the redevelopment of the
