The Charitable Objects of the charity remain the same as those set out in the Constitution and Governing Document when it was set up as a CIO (Charitable Incorporated Organisation).
The trustees have operated having regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit. The charity is run entirely by volunteers, for the benefit of the area of operation of the charity.
In addition to the trustees, there are approximately 15 volunteers who give of their time and talents to ensure that the charity is effective in meeting its objectives. Volunteers carry out a variety of tasks ranging from gardening and grounds work, to baking cakes, manning stalls at events, handling publicity etc.
Three new trustees were appointed: Madeline Andersen-Warren, Margaret Bullett and Simon Bullett. They had all been members of the Advisory Committee for a reasonable length of time prior to appointment and had proved in that capacity to be valued volunteers contributing much to the activities and running of the Village Hall. New trustees are required to complete an application stating areas of interest, experience and expertise.
Sadly, one of our long serving trustees, Alan Batley,passed away towards the end of the year.
Trustees are very 'hands on' in leading in areas such as Community Orchard development, setting up the Community Garden, gardening, library management, food bank collections, jam making, organising events, facilitating groups and lettings in addition to the many administrative tasks.
Our many regular lettings are where the greatest part of our income is generated. The regular bookings we have contribute greatly to the achievement of our objectives – advancing physical and mental health through activity and companionship as well as learning new skills and activities.
Our friendship and crafting group has contributed greatly to the mental health and well being of the many members who have commented positively about how they have been
helped.
The library, under the careful stewardship of Madeline, has proved very popular and is regularly used by members of groups attending Village Hall activities.
Hall run events such as coffee mornings, seasonal fairs, and concerts contribute to the finances of the Hall. Contributions from jam sales and library donations are also a welcome source of income.
'One off' and party bookings also raise a good income for the continued running of the Village Hall.

Significant Events and Developments during 2022 include

Asset Transfer – lease (125 years) was signed in July. The trustees are now totally responsible for the Village Hall both internally and externally, including grounds etc. Prior to the signing of the lease the council paid for the replacement of a gable wall. We spent £10000 from our own reserves on repairing the frame of the building, and insulating and re-cladding the walls of the outside of the main hall of the building. Further work is planned for 2023 and 2024.

Establishment of Community Garden including raised beds, paving and garden store. Grants of £5500 from Councillors' Ward budget and £500 from a local Charity Shop enabled this.

Establishment of Community Orchard enabled by a grant of £1135 from Councillors' Ward budget and individual sponsorship.

Christmas Dinner 25/12/2022 for 40 people, cooked and served by volunteers. Funded by a grant of £150 from a local charity and assistance from Asda, Tesco and local donations. Also aided by a group of local taxi drivers volunteering to collect people for their dinner, and return them home again.

Jubilee Picnic Party was a free event for the community with food and games. A grant for this of £500 was made by the Councillors' Ward budget.

A Warm Welcome Room was operated on 2 days per week from 1[st] November to help people in the community who were struggling with their energy bills.
Expenditure for the year exceeded income by approximately 10%, but a healthy balance of £25000 is held in a deposit account. This is regarded as an emergency fund to cover for emergency repairs or loss of income, and is the equivalent of 1 year's income.
The main risks to the organisation are loss of key personnel from the trustees, and / or loss of significant regular hirers.
We need to plan for succession of trustees to mitigate against the loss of key personnel. We need to ensure a diverse range of hirers without 'putting too many eggs in one basket'.
We regard 2022 as a highly successful year from the point of view of the range of activities and community involvements contributing to the objects of the charity Milnsbridge Village Hall.
