Structure, Governance and Management
Ashford BME Association is based in Ashford. The registered and the principal address of the Charity is 33 Rowanberry Road, Newcastle Upon Tyne. Ashford BME Association has achieved full registration on 24 April 2017 and its Registered Charity Number is 1172705.
Organisational Structure
Ashford BME Association Board of Trustees met three times during the year. Our board of Trustees are responsible for making decisions on all matters that generally concerns the overall strategic direction and policy of the Charity. The day-to-day responsibility for the provision of service and activities of the Charity are delegated to the Chief Executive Officer, who then report back to the Trustees.
Risk Management Policy
The Trustees have a duty to identify and review risks to which Ashford BME Association is exposed to and ensure that appropriate controls are in place to provide reasonable assurance against liability, fraud or anything else that could hinder Ashford BME Association services.
The Trustees have numerous control measures to minimise risks in relation to; banking, donations, income, expenditure and approving expenses.
All members that work with vulnerable and young people are DBS checked and are updated regularly trained and kept up to date with current legislation. Staff and volunteers are regularly trained in Safeguarding to ensure they are kept up to date and are competent in this area.
During Board Meetings, Trustees examine and review major risks facing Ashford BME Association. The risk management policy is reviewed on an annual basis. Ashford BME Association has developed systems to monitor and control these risks to mitigate any impact that they may have on the Charity in the future.
Objectives
To preserve and protect health and wellbeing with a particular focus on, but not limited to, people from the Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) communities, principally in, but not limited to, Ashford, Kent and the surrounding area through: responding to the broad public health needs of the BAME population, health education and training of all communities thereby empowering and enabling them to advance in life and improve their quality of life having positive health outcomes. The Charity provides advice, workshops, advocacy, counselling services on health matters, and by signposting individuals to access other support providers of health and welfare matters.
Activities
Ashford BME Association was an approved partner for Barnardo’s on their See Hear Respond Initiative. The Charity focused on the following core priority groups targeted in See Hear Respond:

Children requiring mental health and emotional wellbeing support

Children at risk of abuse and exploitation (in and out of the home)

The nature of the work completed by Ashford BME included providing: Accessible advice and support to children and their families • Therapeutic support to children and their families who needed support with mental health and emotional wellbeing • Group work activity to children and their families on a variety of issues • Reintegration into education support for children who had become disconnected from schools and required intensive support to help them return to school and rebuild relationships. The Charity shared practice across the network and adapted models of delivery in line with local and national lockdown and COVID safe.
Outcomes of this activity included: Access to accurate information • Improved parent health and wellbeing • Improved connection to informal support services • Improved safety of the child • Improved connection to services • Improved safety of the parent Ashford BME performance was monitored through the required submission of monthly reports and case studies, attendance at monthly contract meetings and a final exit interview. In addition to this all referral, assessment and closure records for children supported were recorded on a central data base and checked for quality.
Achievement and Performance
The Charity has successfully achieved its charity status and also its aims and objectives outlined in the charity constitution.
The Trustees consider the state of affairs to be satisfactory.
