Thurrock Rugby Club Trustees Report 2022 (Season 2021/22)

A full return to rugby was welcome after a few quiet seasons at Oakfield. Old friendships renewed after the COVID pandemic which was also helped by a full slate of competitive league fixtures for teams at the club.

Off the pitch, Thurrock Rugby club continues its partnership with the Orsett Heath Academy secondary school, a new AGP pitch was built and an old cricket strip between pitches 1 and 2 was renewed.

With appreciably better facilities, the club has hosted many County Rugby u17 and u18 fixtures and is now well positioned to work more closely with Essex County RFU for the mutual benefit of all rugby players and supporters.

Thurrock RFC is now licenced to host up to four outdoor events each year and in the summer, we successfully hosted Boxing, Kabaddi and a corporate social.

Our club underage teams have recommenced their annual rugby tours which is an important element of life at a community rugby club like Thurrock.

During the season we lost a few longstanding and excellent members. Our former club treasurer Jeff Selway worked many hours on club business and had been a former player, youth coach, supporter of both Thurrock Men’s and Women’s Rugby. Jeff leaves a strong legacy of sound and prudent financial management and control of the club’s affairs for which we are all grateful.

Thurrock Rugby Football club activities in the community is impressive with a total of eighteen teams under management. Having decent coaching and management resources to look after all these teams, ensuring that individual players play regularly and reach their full potential, is something that is fully appreciated.

Thank you to all members, admin, grounds, kitchen, match referee other officiating volunteers who add to the enjoyment of life at Thurrock RFC.
