The Friends of Martello24 work in partnership with English Heritage, who own Martello Tower No.24, to manage the tower and to open Martello Tower No. 24 in Dymchurch to the public on a published regular basis and manage bespoke visits.

Working in formal partnership with English Heritage, the Friends of Martello24 manage the openings to the public of Martello Tower No.24 in Dymchurch.

Section D Achievements and performance

Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year

  1. In 2021/2022 the tower was not open to the public due to the Covid-19 pandemic, except for a few bespoke visits with limited numbers.

  2. Our volunteers continued regular maintenance checks of the tower, reporting same to English Heritage.

  3. We published and maintained a Martello24 website, Facebook and Twitter pages.

  4. With the ending of most Covid-19 restrictions in early 2022 we have been able to plan for the re-opening of the tower for the coming season, i.e. Easter to the end of October.
