overmanyof thepurposes and activitiesof the older Coker &SailTrust
(Charityno.1120031),theprimaryaimbeingtoprotect trusteesfrom
potentially large personal liabilities. Our trustees are local people who are
closely involved withtheproject.
The CIOholdsalltheleases-themain factory site,thevisitorcentre
site,andthestrip oflandto the north ownedbytheneighbouringWindsor
family.All threeleasesareregistered.Theaccountsof theolderTrust
have now been closed andthefunds transferredto theClO.TheCIO
also now claimsGiftAidinsteadoftheTrust.
Ourfinancial security duringtheCovid19pandemicwasassistedby
'HospitalityandLeisure Grants'from SouthSomerset DistrictCouncil.
These covered our ongoing unavoidable expenses.
OurHeritage LotteryfundedrestorationprojectcompletedonMarch30th,
2020-justastheCovid lockdownbegan.Butafter aperiodofcompete
closure, we decided that, as most of ourworksiseither outside, oropens
directly to theoutside,wecouldopen to thepublicattimes whenpublic
houses were allowedtoserve customersoutside.Asaresult,Dawe's
becameaplace where localgroupssuch astheWl,bell-ringers anda
Royal Navy Military Wives Choir cametomeet outsideassoonas
restrictions wereeased.
2022 has seenaresumptionof'normal'opening, includingmanygroup
visitsby U3As, Probus, local history societies and car clubs.
Asrestorationofthe Victorianworksbeganabout15yearsago,wenow
are finding areas where repairshavetoberedone.
Feedbackfromvisitors continuestobeexcellent and donationsfromour
visitors are covering our outgoings
