The charity continued to rescue & rehome ponies, castrate colts & stallions to reduce breeding on the commons and attended road traffic accidents involving ponies to relieve their suffering. Vet care was provided to ponies wherever required. The Charity continued its work and was able to help a lot of neglected ponies from suffering. A feeding programme during the Winter of 2021/22 was delivered on Gelligaer Common in a joint effort with Welsh Horse & Pony Aid, delivering around 14 bales to the ponies weekly between December 2021-March 2022. |

Financial Review
| Financial Review | ||
|---|---|---|
| Review of the charity’s financial position at the end of the period |
Para 1.21 | Donations & rehoming fees saw a decrease in 2021/22 from the previous year and the Charity were fortunate to receive a £53.3k legacy which was most helpful in covering vet fees & other overheads. There was also an extremely generous donation of £10k from a valued supporter. The Charity continued to rehome ponies to relieve suffering enabling them to continue with much needed rescue activities. A lease on one of the charity yards was discontinued due to an unreasonable increase in the rent and further restriction on the amount of land available for use. |
| Statement explaining the policy for holding reserves stating why they are held |
Para 1.22 | Ideally the Charity would like to maintain a 6 month financial reserve to cover running costs. Unfortunately we still experience high demand for help with neglected ponies and continue to help where we can. This is a continuous strain on resources and despite ending 2022 with a good 7 month reserve which was in excess of 6 months it has been difficult to maintain it. |
| Amount of reserves held | Para 1.22 | Bank & Paypal balances at the year end were £57,478, which amounts to around 7 months running costs (based on the costs during the same financial year) |
| Reasons for holding zero reserves |

The charity’s principal sources of funds (including Para 1.47 any fundraising)
| Investment policy and objectives including any social investment policy adopted |
Para 1.46 | |
|---|---|---|
| A description of the principal risks facing the charity |
Para 1.46 | The principal risks for the Charity are maintaining volunteer help & the effects of the financial crisis on income & strain on rehoming. The Charity continues to have high demand for help due to owners in financial difficulty & poor health requesting help & through neglect & suffering of equines. It is evident that the cost of living crisis has increased the risk in these matters and sadly the risk of donations to decrease due to people having less funds available. It also means there is less demand for ponies being offered a home and ponies need to stay with the Charity longer which increases costs. Maintaining a volunteer base has been difficult and illness has led to a decision to pay for some yard work on a freelance basis for the following financial year (2022/23). |

Re: Welsh Pony Rescue & Rehoming Charitable Trust
Independent Examination of Accounts for the year ended 30[th] September 2021
My examination was carried out in accordance with general directions of the Charities Commission CC32. This includes a review of accounting records of the charity and final accounts and explanations of any items where required. In line with requirements I have not carried out an audit of the accounts.
No matters have come to my attention which give me any cause for concern with respect to record keeping and preparation of accounts of the Charity.
