AGM REPORT MAY 2023
The Food Bank continues to be blessed by a committed team of volunteers who continue each week to offer a non-judgemental and welcoming ‘face’ being kind to all who enter the building. Thanks go to everyone who willingly give of their time each week in the task of helping others.
The year has been really difficult for our service users as post pandemic they now battle with the cost-of-living crisis as well as continued increases in energy prices. We hope that they leave our building feeling they have been heard and helped.
Our 10[th] year during which we have given gifts of food to 3016 people.
There have been changes in our volunteering staff, we are pleased that Joan has been able to return to us! Sadly, Brian passed away in 2022 and several of us attended his funeral. Thanks go to Patrizia who has taken over permanently as Treasurer. Our thanks go to Sue Cotton for auditing our finances. Sadly, Greg and Tracey have left after 9 years although they do still help out with pick ups and do come in when ‘order picking’ staff take holidays. Our thanks go to them for their service over the years and for continuing to support us. We have welcomed Rachel to the team, and she is working in the ‘order picking’ area. Again, on a sad note Alison from the ‘Money Sorted’ project is no longer able to work here as funding has been withdrawn from that project and she is sadly missed but thank her for the work she did with service users in her time with us. It is hoped that the project may come online again in the future or that we may find other sources who can deliver similar advice.
Thanks to Donna who continues to work on the allotment and has gained funding for various projects which add value to this project which is bearing fruit (pardon the pun).
Thanks go to the outreach arm of the Food Bank where networking and the regifting to other food banks of ’too much food’ i.e., that which would otherwise go to land fill.
I am happy to give sincere thanks to all the funders who have helped us keep the cupboards full and thanks also go to the community both near and further away who have been so generous in their giving. Thanks go to the organizations that have continued to assist us during this year - the supermarkets, AVA (Ashfield Voluntary Action), Notts CC, Ashfield DC, as well as the extraordinary donations from schools and individuals.
Thanks go to George Watson who continues to support our clients through the Social Inclusion Programme. Pam is the face of this project and is an integral member of the team bringing her wealth of experience and she continues to be extremely busy.
Each year I repeat the same message in my report and that is that we are truly blessed in our work. We may not be the biggest or the busiest but what we do
have is big hearts with the energy to work so that hopefully less people go hungry, and I repeat again what I report every year that - you all are incredibly special people!
