3.0 Structure, Governance and Governing Document

The Peace Institute is a Charitable Incorporated Organization (COI) and has been registered with the Charity Commission since November 2016 under charity number 1170207. Further details are available on the Charity Commission's website.

4.0 Organisational Structure

The trustees are responsible for the control and management of the COI. They volunteer their time freely and receive no remuneration or other financial benefits.

The trustees meet regularly and are responsible for all decisions taken about running the organization and the activities provided by the COI. To assist in the smooth running of the charity the trustees recruit volunteers on a project-byproject basis.

5.0 Appointment and Induction of Trustees

The Board is responsible for the recruitment of all new trustees. No new trustees have been appointed this year. As and when new trustees are recruited they will be chosen for their understanding of the community and will have earned the respect of the wider community or have the potential to do so.

Potential trustees will be invited to attend trustees' meetings as observers and will be given more details of the charity's aims and activities and, if all agree, they will then be proposed as new trustees at the subsequent trustees' meeting. This process allows due consideration of the person's eligibility, personal competence, specialist knowledge and skills.

Following the appointment, new trustees will be introduced to their role and

given copies of the trust deed and a guide to the policies and procedures adopted by our charity. Several publications from the Charity Commission are also signposted including the guidance on charities and public benefit and the advancement of religion for the public benefit. This ensures that new trustees are aware of the scope of their responsibilities under the Charities Act. Initially, new trustees will work with an existing trustee assisting with particular activities and projects run by the charity.

6.0 Risk Management

The trustees assess risks on a project-by-project basis and satisfy themselves that adequate systems are put in place.

7.0 Objectives of the Organisation

Our objectives have been set out in our governing document as follows;

8.0 Strategies

The trustees are still committed to building a "Peace Centre" which will be a onestop facility where all people (people of faith and no faith, Muslims and nonMuslims) or those who wish to know more about our faith can gather together to learn.

This facility will be accessible to all who wish to understand real Islam in the 21st century and its compatibility with global universal values and train the next generation of youth.

9.0 Activities for the Financial Year

The activities of "The Peace Institute" have been varied and cover aspects of social work with youth, social cohesion and awareness raising throughout the world concerning injustices and prejudices in societies.

Our activities and initiatives included the following;

9.1 Interfaith Forums

This forum is a valuable avenue for building understanding between people of faith and no faith. It draws members from the Muslim, Christian, Judaic, other faiths and no faith. It discusses various aspects of faith issues locally, nationally and internationally to offer support for each other.

9.2 Faith Advisory Service with School, Colleges and Universities

The Peace Institute directors continue to be contacted by various schools, colleges and universities across the UK for faith-related expertise to offer confidential advice and resolve conflicts / potential conflicts.

9.3 School Visits to Local Mosques

The Peace Institute continues to be contacted by schools studying religious education to arrange visits to local Mosques. We have a visit program that includes tours and a question-and-answer session. We emphasise that no questions are out of bounds. These visits are valued and appreciated by schools.

9.4 Encouraging Democratic Participation

Scholars of The Peace Institute have been active in getting people involved in the democratic process at local elections. We ensure people register themselves to vote. The Peace Institute equipped people to make informed choices and above all participate in the democratic process without endorsing any particular political party.

9.5 Plight of Muslims Globally

The Peace Institute continues to raise awareness through seminars, public meetings, collecting donations, writing to officials and holding special prayers. This year we have been active in supporting the plight of Muslims and Christians in Palestine and India.

9.6 Youth Programs

Directors continue to conduct Islamic marriages after appropriate due diligence. Normally marriages are conducted in Mosques. However, not all Muslims reside in the vicinity of a Mosque.

10.0 Income Sources

All the funds received by The Peace Institute are solely from Muslim donors in the form of Zakat, Sadaqa, Fitrana and Lillah. We have not received funding from any other source this year or previously.

11.0 Going Concerns

The Peace Institute is a stable organisation and can meet its obligations and continue its charitable work for the foreseeable future. Its activities are run by the trustees and volunteers in a purely voluntary capacity.

13.0 Plans Going Forward

We are committed to building a "Peace Centre" in Kirklees which will benefit all regardless of their background. It is envisaged that the center will be a state-ofthe-art matchless facility and will be a beacon of peace and understanding between Islam and the West. We propose to build a facility accessible to all who wish to understand real Islam in the 21st century and its compatibility with global universal values and train the next generation of youth.

15.0 Trustees' Responsibilities

The Charities Act requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity and of the surplus of the charity for that period. In preparing those financial statements the trustees are required to;
