NOTTINGHAMSHIRE LOCAL HISTORY ASSOCIATION

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 2024

TRUSTEES REPORT ON ACTIVITIES DURING 2023

FORUMS

During 2023, Nottinghamshire Local History Association (NLHA) held two History Forums. Both were very well attended with audiences of over 50 people at each meeting. In March the speakers were Richard Gaunt, Rowena Edlin-White, Denis Hill and Adrian Gray, and there were eight bookstalls or displays of research. The speakers for the October Forum were Rebecca Gregory, William Ruff, Mo Cooper and Richard Parker. Bookstalls at this event included Bookshelf (Lowdham) and there was an exhibition of work on the Sherwood Estate.

MEDIA

The NLHA website continues in operation with some recent improvements.

The association has two Facebook pages, one for the NLHA itself and another that has been used for general contributions. We have renamed this latter one 'Nottinghamshire History' and developed it as a 'group' which means that it can be used as a discussion place. By posting some interesting material on it, then sharing this to other groups, we have expanded its influence considerably - and this of course helps us to publicise events. On 1 April 2023 it has 1200 members but now has over 2200. The NLHA page has over 3000 members, but has grown more slowly.

The NLHA Newsletter has been produced every two months and sent out by email as well as being put on the website. We have been able to expand the number of societies whose events are covered within it, though not all have joined the NLHA itself.

Election of Trustees and Officers

Currently there are seven Trustees. It is a requirement that at each AGM one third of the Trustees shall stand down and can offer themselves for re-election and it is usual that those who have been longest in office retire, though can be re-elected.

For the year 2024 the following Trustees will retire and all have confirmed that they are willing to be nominated for re-election:

David Anderson: Nominated by David Barton, Seconded by Jeremy Lodge

Bob Massey: Nominated by David Anderson, Seconded by Chris Weir

Chris Weir: Nominated by Bob Massey, Seconded by David Barton

The following trustees remain in office: David Barton, Jeremy Lodge, Adrian Gray and Sarah Seaton

There are three Officers (Chair, Secretary and Treasurer) who stand down each year and can offer themselves for re-election. They have all confirmed that they are willing to be nominated for re-election.

They are:

Chairman; Bob Massey: Nominated by David Anderson, Seconded by David Barton Secretary: David Barton: Nominated by David Anderson, Seconded by Chris Weir Treasurer: David Anderson: Nominated by Jeremy Lodge, Seconded by Adrian Gray

Vacancies: The Constitution allows for up to 10 Trustees, which means there are vacancies for three additional Trustees who must be members of NLHA and be nominated by another member.

Anyone wishing to be a Trustee should send their nomination to the Secretary at secretary@nlha.org.uk by April 6[th] .
