Section C Objectives and activities

Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document

To provide a Centre for all members of society including such persons who are in necessitous circumstances together with the dependents of such persons and in furtherance of these objects, but not otherwise, the Centre shall have the power to:-

(a) to provide catering facilities; support and guidance to those most vulnerable in society; community interaction; physical and mental recreation and provide a venue for other able and disabled voluntary organisations to meet.

(b) to raise funds by way of donations, grants and other lawful methods and accept and receive gifts of property of any description (whether subject to any special trusts or not). (c) to promote and maintain relationships with all persons and organisations interested in the furtherance of The Centre. (d) To do all things deemed to be charitable in furtherance of the above objects.

The trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit and have overseen the following activities:

• 1) Cellar Café – Following the easing of pandemic restrictions consideration was given to re-opening the café facility. Initially, changes in the personal circumstances of several key volunteers made this difficult. Following an offer of collaboration from a local restauranteur, the café reopened in October as a canteen style pay what you can (from £0 upwards) canteen style café with the title Cegin Hedyn. This now operates a vegetarian based menu using produce donated by local suppliers.

• 2) Christmas Day Dinner – Following on from the operational changes to the café a free traditional Christmas Day Dinner was provided on the premises, very similar in format to those offered pre-pandemic. Approximately 75 dinners were provided along with a number of take-away meals for housebound and frail people.

Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year

• 1) Cellar Café/Cegin Hedyn – Following the service changes and facilities outlined in Section C above, during the first three months of operation around 800 meals were served of which over 100 were given free of charge.

• 2) Christmas Day Dinner following the changes outline in section C above, approximately 75 dinners were provided along with a number of take-away meals for housebound and frail people.

• 3) Local bereavement counselling services once again, post pandemic, had the use of the Centre and its facilities one day a week.

• 4) Fresh Start project as outlined in Section C above issued 15 vouchers and subsequently the requested items. This number which was much lower than pre-pandemic due to changes in personnel in the referral agencies requiring reacquaintance with the system.

• 5) Despite the curtailment of many activities by the Covid-19 pandemic and its associated restrictions, the Centre distributed a total of £7000 from raised funds to (14) local, national and UK based international projects/organisations.
