The social media interaction as a result was not only a rnajor contributory factor to th8 fundraisiig èfforts but m8d& a huge differen(e in raising awarerss ofthe f8¢ts and risks of proslate cancer. To further endorse our 20th year of operation, wè béeamè th8 charty pather of the Oji Pcrthcawl 10k. Throughout the p8st two decades Prostate Cyrnru has had a strong associalion with thè area and had recenuy launched a new friendship group which also covers Porthcawl. We were gratefvl to all our runners an(J volunteers who made rt such a successfvl and memorablg day. The FN8 Valleys Switve in August, was supported by 200 cyclists who tc(l( on the chaI￿ng1rrfj route from Margam Park, ts¢kllng the steep dimbs of the Bwlch and Rhigos mountains. Competitors battkd thr￿gh Ihe e￿rn￿nts inGludin9 heavy rain, mist and winds, supported by the 8rrny of volunteers who ensured the route was well signposted, with strateglc stops s(ttered throughout offering refreshmènts 8nd mechanical 8sslst8nce. We are an indeFEndent Welsh d)arity. we do not have access lo any central funding or G0￿Mment grants. therefore we rety on the generostiy and support of Ind￿Idual fundraisers and donors. The incom8 d￿ved from Ihls $ource represented 60Y• of Ihe ovtrr811 total, an UF4tft of 33% on last year. The es¢alaUon in PR activty and scK4al medi3 presen( is a major factor in $g¢uring thls public suppxt. We applaud and acknowlod9& the hard work and ugativlty of the staff whose enthusiasm and cornmitrnEnt g•nerated the remaining 40% of revenuè, resulting from the centrally organi8ed community events, such as The Big Walk, Five val￿YS Sportive, running series, dlnners at)d go￿dayS. Tho pressure on the NHS services continugd. with the unrest amongst nurses and doctors resuhing in unpr8￿1&nted strike action, which was well documènted. Ttrwe dlfficulties led to a di8ruption in seMc8s, and inevitably a bse￿o9 in patient care and diagnosis. Whilst we remain￿1 own to dialogue with the urology departments across Wales, given Il fin8n(x81 and D￿ratIonal difficulties within the NHS, a review w85 undertakèn to ensure that agreed projects remained viable and achievable. The movement within th8 designalod funds rgfte¢t t￿se adlustrnents, with efforts C4)ncentrated on projècts th8t will have a positlve Impact and are wlhin the charity's ¢ontrd to doliver.
