Para 1.17 and

MLMS has a number of engagement activities
that help support our strategic aims. Over the
past year these have included:
Democracy Cafe’sis our reinvigoration of
the 17th century coffee house tradition where
members of society would gather and discuss
local issues. These events brought together
diverse members of the local community who
do not usually interact with each other, to
discuss the most pressing issues of the day,
as well as possible solutions. This model
brings a social buzz back to coffee shops and
makes them a place where communities can
come together and engage in meaningful
discussions.
The Common Futures Forum (CFF)aims to
inspire, empower and connect young and
socially excluded citizens to lead change, by
providing them with the platform to shape
society. Launched by the Mayor of London
Sadiq Khan in November 2018, the CFF
brought together those at the forefront of the
tech, business, politics and society; from
cultural icons, influences to decision-makers.
The Forum gathers young people, world
leaders,
visionaries,
policymakers
and
academics annually to establish a new
approach
to
economic,
political
and
community life.

Quarantine Question Time (QQT) In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, MLMS set-up the Quarantine Question Time to help provide expert advice to young people about coronavirus and its impact on our lives. The series was designed to:

National Voter Registration Day is a nonpartisan campaign aimed at encouraging young people to register to vote and to celebrate democracy. With local elections taking place on May 6th, it was the last day to register to vote. My Life My Say acted as the national coordinator for National Voter Registration Day.

Make It Make Sense is a live talk-show aiming to amplify the voices of young people by breaking down the barriers associated with language that often put young people off from engaging in democracy. The show provides an interactive hybrid model of engagement enabling us to help improve young people’s understanding of decision-making with the call to action to encourage young people to register to vote.

The Spotlight Show is a short film docuseries in line with our mission of aiming to amplify young voices to improve decisionmakers’ understanding of the issues that impact young people. We interview young people who are passionate about changemaking to spotlight their story and help inspire a new generation of activists. This project is in line with one of our core aims to amplify the voices of young people who are often overlooked in decision-making.

Leadership
In 2020, we launchedthe MLMS Young
Leaders
programme
which
selects
20
community-minded rising stars from around
the UK for a one-year programme designed
to equip them with the skills to lead change in
their communities.
This program is specifically designed to help
support young people from disadvantaged
backgrounds, and those who have not
previously been able to access leadership
training opportunities. They have been
selected through a robust selection criteria
from each region of the UK. We aim to equip
young leaders with skills including improving
communication, community organising, social
media, fundraising, campaigning, business
development and strategic skills.

Achievements and performance

Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 The Covid-19 pandemic, in many ways, has
been an opportunity for My Life My Say, as
we’ve had a lot of leading institutions
approaching us to help engage young
people’s voices with their organisations. As
such we have grown our international
partnerships, partnerships that seek to
collaborate, and develop young people within
the field of democracy, whilst espousing
similar passions and values as My Life My
Say. Some of these partnerships included
tech giants such as Uber and Facebook,
some of them included partnerships such as
the Advocacy Academy, and some include
media outlets such as Tortoise, In addition to
the many grassroots organisations from
across the country. In total, we have
established 61 new partnerships.
My Life My Say’s Democracy Cafes have
been instrumental in facilitating young
people’s voices to be heard. We organised 72
Democracy Cafés during this year, reaching
3,000 young people in person. More than
80% of these Democracy Café events took
place outside of London. Training young
people through our leadership programme
was a key factor in delivering more
Democracy Cafés.
In partnership with Opinium Research, we
launched the UK’s first youth index poll which
is designed to take a temperature of Britain’s
youth bi-annually on the issue of trust and
confidence in our democracy. We published
the first sets of results in April 2022, which
showcased young people’s views and
perspectives on the future of Britain.
April 14th 2022, marked National Voter
Registration Day - a non-partisan campaign
aimed at encouraging young people to
register to vote and to celebrate democracy.
With local elections taking place on May 6th,
it was the last day to register to vote. My Life
My Say acted as the national coordinator for
National Voter Registration Day.
Over 55,000 people registered to vote on
April 14th. Through our social media
channels alone, we reached over 565,000
people. With the help of social media users,
we surely reached many more people!
As well as receiving support from all of the
major UK political parties, we received
support from over 40 organisations across the
UK, including businesses and the third sector.

Our efforts to ensure that more people register to vote did not go unnoticed as we achieved so much in one day. Through our Instagram content and live panels, we engaged over 11,300 people. Our guest speakers included the Mayor of London, TY Logan, Billie JD Porter, and many more incredible speakers. In November 2021, My Life My Say delivered its annual Common Futures Forum bringing together over 500 young people together in London to explore youth-led solutions to some of the biggest challenges that face our society. From climate change to the impact of Covid, young people led conversations that put solutions forward to decision-makers. This was the first time we delivered a face-toface event before the pandemic in 2020.

In 2021-2022, My Life My Say engaged with 25 young people through our leadership programme to help improve their confidence and skills to affect policy-making at a local, regional and national level. Through this programme, we have successfully delivered two 12 month programmes that each consisted of 12 workshops ranging from confidence building, public speaking and an introduction to UK democracy.

the work of the charity and assuming that the

2.2 INCOME

Recognition of income
These are included in the Statement of Financial Activities (SoFA) when:
• the charity becomes entitled to the resources;
• it is more likely than not that the trustees will receive the resources;
• the monetary value can be measured with sufficient reliability.
Grants and donations are only included in the SoFA when the general income recognition
criteria are met (5.10 to 5.12 FRS102 SORP).
There has been no offsetting of assets and liabilities, or income and expenses, unless
required or permitted by the FRS 102 SORP or FRS 102.
Donated services and facilities are included in the SOFA when received at the value of
the gift to the charity provided the value of the gift can be measured reliably.

that the charity has provided the specified goods or services as entitlement to the grant
only occurs when the performance related conditions are met (5.16 FRS 102 SORP).
Gift Aid receivable is included in income when there is a valid declaration from the donor.

benefits are recognised as income earned from the provision of goods and services as
income from charitable activities.
2.3 EXPENDITURE AND LIABILITIES
The charity accounts for basic financial instruments on initial recognition as per
paragraph 10.7 FRS102 SORP. Subsequent measurement is as per paragraphs 11.17
to 11.19, FRS102 SORP.
Tangible fixed assets for
use by charity
Liability recognition
Liabilities are recognised where it is more likely than not that there is a legal or
constructive obligation committing the charity to pay out resources and the amount of the
obligation can be measured with reasonable certainty.
Grants payable without
performance conditions
The depreciation rates and methods used are disclosed in note 14.
This is included in the accounts when receipt is probable and the amount receivable can
be measured reliably.
Insurance claims are only included in the SoFA when the general income recognition
criteria are met (5.10 to 5.12 FRS102 SORP) and are included as an item of other
income in the SoFA.
Membership subscriptions received in the nature of a gift are recognised in Donations
and Legacies.
They are valued at cost.
Deferred income
Material item of deferred income has been included in the accounts.
Provisions for liabilities
A liability is measured on recognition at its historical cost and then subsequently
measured at the best estimate of the amount required to settle the obligation at the
reporting date
Basic financial
instruments
Income from membership
subscriptions
Income from interest,
royalties and dividends
Heritage assets
This includes any realised or unrealised gains or losses on the sale of investments and
any gain or loss resulting from revaluing investments to market value at the end of the
year.
Support costs include central functions and have been allocated to activity cost
categories on a basis consistent with the use of resources, eg allocating property costs
by floor areas, or per capita, staff costs by the time spent and other costs by their usage.
Support costs have been allocated between governance costs and other support.
Governance costs comprise all costs involving public accountability of the charity and its
compliance with regulation and good practice.
The charity has creditors which are measured at settlement amounts less any trade
discounts
These are capitalised if they can be used for more than one year, and cost at least
Investment gains and
losses
Settlement of insurance
claims
Where there are no conditions attaching to the grant that enables the donor charity to
realistically avoid the commitment, a liability for the full funding obligation must be
recognised.
Governance and support
costs
Creditors
Redundancy cost
The charity made no redundancy payments during the reporting period.
Where the charity gives a grant with conditions for its payment being a specific level of
service or output to be provided, such grants are only recognised in the SoFA once the
recipient of the grant has provided the specified service or output.

Separate material item of income comprises of Government grants received from the Coronavirus Job
Retention Scheme. Grants that become receivable as compensation for expenses, or losses incurred,
or for the purpose of giving immediate financial support to the entity with no future related costs, are
recognised in income, in the period in which it becomes receivable.
Stocks held for sale as part of non-charitable trade are measured at the lower or cost or
net realisable value.
Goods or services provided as part of a charitable activity are measured at net realisable
value based on the service potential provided by items of stock.
Debtors (including trade debtors and loans receivable) are measured on initial
recognition at settlement amount after any trade discounts or amount advanced by the
charity. Subsequently, they are measured at the cash or other consideration expected to
be received.
Work in progress is valued at cost less any foreseeable loss that is likely to occur on the
contract.
They are valued at fair value except where they qualify as basic financial instruments.
Investments held for resale or pending their sale and cash and cash equivalents with a

Note 25 Fair value of assets and liabilities

The main risks arising from the charity’s financial instruments are credit risk and liquidity risk. The trustees review and agree policies for managing each of these risks and these are summarised below.

25.1 Please provide details of the charity's exposure to credit risk (the risk of incurring a loss due to a debtor not paying what is owed) , liquidity risk (the risk of not being able to meet short term financial demands) and market risk (the risk that the value of an investment will fall due to changes in the market) arising from financial instruments to which the charity is exposed at the end of the reporting period and explain how the charity manages those risks.

Credit risk

Credit risk refers to the risk that a counterparty will default on its contractual obligations resulting in financial loss to the charity, and arises principally from the debtors balance at the year-end, which are considered by the trustees to be recoverable.

Liquidity risk

The charity’s policy throughout the year has been to ensure that it has adequate liquidity by careful management of its working capital.

25.2 Please give details of the amount of change in the fair value of basic financial instruments (debtors, creditors, investments (see section 11, FRS102 SORP)) measured at fair value through the SoFA that is attributable to changes in credit risk.

Independent examiner's statement I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention which gives me cause to believe that: • accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 386 of the Companies Act 2006; or • the accounts do not accord with such records; or • the accounts do not comply with relevant accounting requirements under section 396 of the Companies Act 2006 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination; or •the accounts have not been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS102). I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
