Achievements and Performance

SORP reference

Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 NWTCA is a charitable, cultural, educational
non-profit
organisation
dedicated
to
increase, promote, foster friendship, public
knowledge and understanding of the
Turkish
culture
and
language.
NWTCA organises community events and
activities where people of all ages and
nationalities
can
come
together
to
experience Turkish culture through Turkish
music,
festivals,
dance,
food
and
art. NWTCA plays an integral role in
bringing the Turkish-British community
together in the North West of England.
One of the main services we offer is
"community language teaching" of Turkish
for children and adults. This has enabled us
to offer a wider range of classes and
activities for people of Turkish origin or
people
with
some
kind
of
Turkish
connection. Some children who have
attended our classes could not previously
speak a word of Turkish, now they have
mastered the basics and have a sense of
their culture and background-our weekend
sessions are particularly valued by single
parents whose children live with primary
carers with no knowledge of Turkish.
As children move through study modules
and pass progress tests included in the
materials, they develop a sense of academic
achievement & personal achievement
independent of more formal language
learning.
The Turkish lessons we provide, also serve
as a social hub for the Turkish community as
we have a waiting area for parents to
socialise when they wait for their children.
We began the new academic year on
08/10/23and our weekly lessons started
face to face and online. We clearly see the
advancement in our student’s learning of
Turkish language and culture. The students

build strong friendships and take part in our friendly art and writing contests and workshops as well. We have supported our students and their families by offering the online Turkish lessons for free of charge. The children kept their cameras off during the lessons and the lessons have not been recorded to stay in line with Data protection regulations. Children and adults develop a sense of citizenship, not only as part of discovering their Turkish identity but also as a result of finding a valued place as a bicultural individual within an inclusive British society. Our volunteers developed skillsets that helped them to raise their employability and boosted their confidence. 23/04/23 7.NWTCA 23rd April Childrens Festival at The Elegance Banqueting Suite. On this day, we celebrate the children of the world, and their achievements. The children prepared poems, songs, and dances, the community came together to celebrate this special national day with their families. Our Consul General also attended the day. 20/05/23 Manchester Turkish Music Choir concert at Parrs Wood Road Church in Didsbury. At this event we were able to showcase our repertoire of Classical Turkish music for a mixed audience of Turkish and British people. Around 150 people attended this event, and we received amazing feedback. 28/09/23 Folk dance classes for children started for the year until June 2024. We have had great interest from our community. The students learn different regional folk dances and have a chance to perform for parents and at our children’s festival. The women’s folk dance group performed at Macfest. We were able to promote Turkish folk dance and culture

amongst other Muslim groups and British
public.
The children love the folk dance classes, it
help them with their identity and belonging.
We have received great feedback from our
students and parents.
01/10/23 Turkish Classical Music Choir
started for the year and next year
We meet bimonthly on Sundays to learn new
songs from Turkish classical music. Our
teacher comes from London to teach us. We
learn a bit about the music theory as well.
Around 20 people regularly attended the
choir rehearsals.
Helping community members with this
creative activity, improving their mental
health, helping people to feel included and
not isolated. The participants are able to
continue engaging with their culture through
the arts which helps them to feel better in
themselves.
08/10/23 Turkish school started for the year
and next year
We have 4 classes for children and 1 class
for adults. In adult class we have students
who want to learn the Turkish language.
Some of our students are either British and
they have interest in Turkey or they are from
Turkish or mix families but they did not
learn the language when they were children.
We help to learn the language and the
culture.
28/10/23 Cumhuriyet balosu at Radisson
Blu Airport Hotel
Celebrated the 100thanniversary of Turkish

the men performed a Zeybek dance from

Network

bring professionals and business owners
together, to benefit from new ideas, foster
stronger connections, to be motivated to
grow stronger, meet likeminded people and
to create a supportive environment for
businesses. The event was well attended.
