Summary of the Para 1.17 The objectives of our charity are:
purposes of the charity i. to safeguard the intangible cultural
as set out in its heritage of Rebetiko song and its
governing document cultural practises (as inscribed in
2017, 12th UNESCO Committee
meeting on the Representative List
of the Intangible Cultural Heritage
of Humanity);
ii. to advance the knowledge and
understanding of Rebetiko customs
practises and traditions, through
traditional and non-formal
methods of learning (i.e. oral
tradition but also through: TAR 3
March 2012 a) formal ways of
learning such as lectures,
workshops and exhibitions b)
established and contemporary
means of transmitting knowledge
such as audio and video recording
and social media;
iii. to promote the enjoyment of
Rebetiko to a diverse audience;
iv. to reduce cultural prejudice and
misinformation by: a) promoting
awareness of Rebetiko’s unique
musical idiom and creating further
discussion over Rebetiko as a
musical genre and the sociocultural
context in which it has developed.
b) increasing intercultural
awareness, understanding and
appreciation of world culture
through music and dance;

sharing, tolerating and respecting
individual cultural identity and

is inclusive (i.e. aimed at people of
all ages, ability levels, cultural and
socioeconomic backgrounds) and
provides opportunities for creative
expression thereby allowing
participants to grow, develop new
skills, maintain well-being and

achievement; c) hosting
intergenerational music making
events which help: - reduce social
isolation and tackle loneliness by
improving the mental health and
wellbeing of everyone involved; -
bridge the gap between
generations by promoting empathy
and connection between young
and old; - create a more cohesive
community whilst tackling ageism.
