Para 1.17 The objectives of our charity are:
i.
to safeguard the intangible cultural
heritage of Rebetiko song and its
cultural practises (as inscribed in
2017, 12th UNESCO Committee
meeting on the Representative List
of the Intangible Cultural Heritage
of Humanity);
ii.
to advance the knowledge and
understanding of Rebetiko customs
practises and traditions, through
traditional and non-formal methods
of learning (i.e. oral tradition but
also through: TAR 3 March 2012 a)
formal ways of learning such as
lectures, workshops and exhibitions
b) established and contemporary
means of transmitting knowledge
such as audio and video recording
and social media;
iii.
to promote the enjoyment of
Rebetiko to a diverse audience;
iv.
to reduce cultural prejudice and
misinformation by: a) promoting
awareness of Rebetiko’s unique
musical idiom and creating further
discussion over Rebetiko as a
musical genre and the sociocultural
context in which it has developed.
b) increasing intercultural
awareness, understanding and
appreciation of world culture
through music and dance;

to promote British values by
sharing, tolerating and respecting
individual cultural identity and
diversity and thereby advancing
democratic beliefs;
vi.
to promote global citizenship
values: creativity, innovation,
commitment to peace, human
rights, sustainable development
and social responsibility.

to provide opportunities for
creative collaboration as well as
international and interfaith
cooperation;
viii.
to promote social cohesion and
support individual and collective
wellbeing through:
a) presentation of public concerts
that aim to bring individuals and
communities closer and thereby
strengthening social ties;
b) education and outreach work
that is inclusive (i.e. aimed at
people of all ages, ability levels,
cultural and socioeconomic
backgrounds) and provides
opportunities for creative
expression thereby allowing
participants to grow, develop new
skills, maintain well-being and
resilience, and increase
self-confidence and a sense of
achievement;
c) hosting intergenerational music
making events which help: - reduce
social isolation and tackle
loneliness by improving the mental
health and wellbeing of everyone
involved; - bridge the gap between
generations by promoting empathy
and connection between young and
old; - create a more cohesive
community whilst tackling ageism;
d) outreach work aimed at people
with SEN and those who are not
able to access live music due to
physical disability or ill health.

musicians and artists working in the
cultural sector by providing paid
work through live/online
performances, workshops and
presentations.

We were very limited as to what we could do
because of the Covid situation. We did manage
to create an online live stream concert series
called_Aoide’s Wandering Ouzeri_and also
created a series of pre recorded videos which
were sent to residences for people with special
needs.
We also set up a new Youtube channel with
remote recordings including one with 54
musicians from all over the world.

were as follows:
1)
created opportunities for paid work for
musicians who lost their regular
income during the pandemic (Through
our outreach videos and online series )

work, we provided music therapy

-individual donations; -donations from the
musicians who give a percentage of their
earnings to the charity from certain concerts;
-fundraising concerts. Expenditure helps
support the key objectives of the charity by: -
paying the musicians’ fees; - covering costs of
venue hire; - covering costs of any aspect of
education and outreach work, for schools and
care homes that can not afford our fees; -
covering PR costs, so that as many people as
possible hear about our work and benefit from
attending the different types of events that we
put on.
