i.
to safeguard the intangible cultural
heritage of Rebetiko song and its
cultural practises (as inscribed in
2017, 12th UNESCO Committee
meeting on the Representative List
of the Intangible Cultural Heritage
of Humanity);
ii.
to advance the knowledge and
understanding of Rebetiko customs
practises and traditions, through
traditional and non-formal methods
of learning (i.e. oral tradition but
also through: TAR 3 March 2012 a)
formal ways of learning such as
lectures, workshops and exhibitions
b) established and contemporary
means of transmitting knowledge
such as audio and video recording
and social media;
iii.
to promote the enjoyment of
Rebetiko to a diverse audience;
iv.
to reduce cultural prejudice and
misinformation by: a) promoting
awareness of Rebetiko’s unique
musical idiom and creating further
discussion over Rebetiko as a
musical genre and the sociocultural
context in which it has developed.
b) increasing intercultural
awareness, understanding and
appreciation of world culture
through music and dance;|

diversity and thereby advancing

participants to grow, develop new
skills, maintain well-being and

c) hosting intergenerational music
making events which help: - reduce
social isolation and tackle
loneliness by improving the mental
health and wellbeing of everyone
involved; - bridge the gap between
generations by promoting empathy
and connection between young and
old; - create a more cohesive
community whilst tackling ageism;
d) outreach work aimed at people
with SEN and those who are not
able to access live music due to
physical disability or ill health.

because of the Covid situation. We did manage
to create an online live stream concert series
called_Aoide’s Wandering Ouzeri_and also
created a series of pre recorded videos which
were sent to residences for people with special
needs.
We also set up a new Youtube channel with
remote recordings including one with 54
musicians from all over the world.|
