Achievements and Performance

SORP reference
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 HCUK ran 9, one day regattas across the
country as part of our traveller trophy
series. We aim to spread them
geographically to provide an opportunity for
to participate. There were 68 entrants
across the fleets, an increase from 52 last
year - 8 Liberty's, 26 303 one-person, 24
303 2-person, and 10 2.3's. The class
association is very inclusive and has a
good representation of age, gender,
culture, and disability participating.
HCUK events are open to all, with or
without a disability. The 4 fleets mean that
people with all sorts of challenges can
compete on level terms. Our sailors have
varying degrees of physical disability, with
some requiring motors to control the sails
and steering to enable them to sail
independently. We cater for deaf and blind
sailors, as well as for people with a range
of cognitive and neurodivergent conditions.
The standard of sailing is also varied with
the top end achieving podium positions at
International events, and the bottom end
being virtual novices. Our 2-person class
also enables those who are unable to sail
independently to take part with a buddy.
The group are very welcoming and
encouraging. This year we introduced a
silver fleet competition for 2nd tier sailors.
Most sailors require help in some way with
transporting boats, rigging them, getting
in/out (some with hoists). Some clubs
provide a team of volunteers to provide
this, others provide the support that they
need themselves. HCUK do provide a rig
of 6 boats to all events. This is specifically
targeted at those who don’t have access to
a boat or the resources to facilitate their
participation. We have fantastic volunteers

who manage the rig for us. The wider volunteer community who are involved find their roles rewarding and enjoyable, but a lot of hard work. All rig boats were booked for every event. The National Championships were held at Whitefriars Sailing Club and attracted 32 entries. This is open to people from other nations and in 2024 we had 2 Dutch sailors and one person from Ireland. There were 32 entrants. Between the Traveller series and the National Championships, sailors from 15 different clubs were involved. The class association helps to provide a pathway and inspires sailors to develop and get more involved. In 2024 there was a well-attended training camp which was run in conjunction with the RYA who largely funded the event and provided a highly regarded performance coach. HCUK support some international events, providing on-water support and coaching. In 2024 the European Championships were in the Netherlands. A team of sailors and volunteers with 2 coaches and 2 RIBs facilitated 18 entrants. In the Liberty class the UK had a European Champion. A team of 6 are booked to go to the World Championships in March 2025, taking place in Australia, also supported by HCUK.

financial position at the end
of the period
Para 1.21 We received £15k in income and spent
£17.8k in expenditure meaning our cash
position decreased to £73.8k at year end.
The decrease in funds is as expected as
we drawn down from our Rig Fund over

Statement explaining the
policy for holding reserves
stating why they are held
Para 1.22 The intention of the Trustees is to maintain
a level of reserves which ensure that HCUK
can continue as a going concern and at
least maintain their current level of activity
for two years. In addition, the Rig project
initiative aims to raise funds to cover all
operating costs for its lifetime (currently a
target of 10 years). Reserves are held in a
separate Natwest Account
Amount of reserves held Para 1.22 £4,693 The intention is to restructure our
account balances to increase the level of

risks facing the charity
Para 1.46 The charity does not have sufficient funds
to replace our Rig when its running costs
deplete its fund (expected to be around
2030). The plan is to replace the Rig via
fundraising effort. Without a new rig, we
would still run our event schedule but would
rely on clubs to provide boats at events.
