OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

Objectives and aims

TheInternationalAssociationforForensicPsychotherapy(IAFP)promotesthementalhealthof offenders
andvictimsthroughtheuseofpsychotherapeuticunderstanding,riskassessment,and treatment
techniques and advances understanding about forensic psychotherapeutic practice.

Significant activities

-developingeducationalprogramsaroundtheworldformentalhealthpractitioners,thepublic, and
offenders to   enhance their understanding of the principles and practice of forensic psychotherapy
- publishing and disseminating new scholarly articles about forensic psychotherapy
- maintainingadatabaseofknowledgeaboutforensicpsychotherapy,includingawebsiteavailableto the
public
- Using knowledge about the principles and practice of forensic psychotherapy to inform policy decisions
- encouraging collaborations between practitioners and agencies working with offenders internationally

All of the IAFP's Trustees have had regard to the Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit

ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE

Charitable activities

This has been a veryproductiveyear in workingtowardsthe IAFP'saim to promotethe healthof offenders
andvictimsthroughtheuseofpsychotherapeuticunderstanding,riskassessmentand treatment
techniques and to advance understanding about forensic psychotherapeutic practice.
DrColinCampbellsucceededDrCarineMinneasPresidentoftheIAFPattheAnnualConferencein May
2022.Dr Daniel Riordanwas electedVice-Presidentand Wayne Bodkinand MariannaCaseriowere elected
members of the Executive Board.

Annual Conference

TheAnnualConferencetookplaceat BMAHouseLondonfromthe12th-14thMay2022,withthe theme,
"ViolenceasaPublicHealthEmergency:Preventing,TreatingandHumanisingtheDangerous Mind".
Takingthe opportunityof this being the 30thAnniversaryAnnualConference,the conferenceexplored the
past,presentandfutureofforensicpsychotherapy.Thiswasahybridformatconference,providing both
thefirstopportunityfordelegatestoattendinpersonsincetheCOVIDpandemic,aswellasto join
remotely.TheAnnualGillMcGauleyPrizewasawardedtoDrDrEmilyTurtonoftheSouth London
Partnershipfor a paper entitled"Out of Sight, out of Mind".The 2023Annual Conferencewill take place in
Turin, with the theme of "From Pain to Violence: Prevention and Intervention".

Evening Seminars

TheIAFPeveningseminarshavebeendevelopedtoprovidea resourcethroughouttheyearfor members
andthosewithaninterestinforensicpsychotherapy.Theseminarswillbebi-monthlyandthe inaugural
seminar will be given by Dr Jacki Craisatti on the 20th April 2023.

Trainees Conference

AcknowledgingtheeducationalroleoftheIAFP,thefirstTraineesConferencehasbeenplannedon the
theme of neuro-psychoanalysis in forensic settings.  This will take place in January 2024.

National Associations Committee

TheNationalAssociationsCommitteehascontinuedtomeettosupportthedevelopmentof national
forensicpsychotherapyassociationsandtodevelopamodelofaffiliateshiptotheIAFP.TheUK Forensic
PsychotherapyAssociationandtheAustralianForensicPsychotherapyAssociationhavebecome formally
affiliatedto the IAFP.A nationalassociationhas been developedin France,with an inauguralconference in
Paris later this year and there are plans for furtherassociationsin other countries,includingItaly and Israel.
TheCommitteeisalsoundertakingscopingworkinrelationtoapossibleinternational forensic
psychotherapy training under the auspices of the IAFP.

International Journal of Forensic Psychotherapy

TheInternationalJournalofForensicPsychotherapycontinuestogofromstrengthtostrengthwith three
successfulissues publishedin the past year, includingan issue based around the Annual Conference plenary
sessionspublishedinDecember2022.TheJournalisduetobeincludedinPsychoanalytic Electronic
Publishing or "PEP-Web", an online psychoanalytic library.

FINANCIAL REVIEW

Reserves policy

TheCharityhasareservespolicytohold3monthscostsinreservestoenabletheCharitytocover costs
and obligationsin the eventof businessclosure.At 31 March2023the charityhad unrestrictedreserves of
£28,122 which equates to over 2 years of monthly costs.

STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT

Governing document

Thecharityiscontrolledbyitsgoverningdocument,adeedoftrust,andconstitutesalimited company,
limited by guarantee, as defined by the Companies Act 2006.
The IAFP is governed by a constitution & By-Laws (revised April 2012)
The IAFP is a private company limited by guarantee

Recruitment and appointment of new trustees

TheIAFPappointedeachofitsofficers(President,HonoraryLifePresident,Secretary,Treasurer,and Vice
President)to be trusteesof the Charity.Nomineesforthesepositions(exceptHonoraryLifePresident) are
solicitedfromtheIAFPmembershiponanannalbasis,andelectionsarethenheldattheAnnual General
Meeting. Officers must be members of the IAFP and are elected to three-year terms.
For banking purposes, we agreed that the future treasurers need to be UK based.

I have completedmy examination.I confirmthat no mattershave come to my attentionin connection with
the examination giving me cause to believe:

1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Company as required by Section 386 of the 2006 Act; or

2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or

3. the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of Section 396 of the 2006 Act other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination; or

1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES

Basis of preparing the financial statements

Thefinancialstatementsofthecharitablecompany,whichisapublicbenefitentityunderFRS 102,
havebeenpreparedinaccordancewiththeCharitiesSORP(FRS102)'AccountingandReporting by
Charities:StatementofRecommendedPracticeapplicabletocharitiespreparingtheiraccounts in
accordancewiththeFinancialReportingStandardapplicableintheUKandRepublicofIreland (FRS
102)(effective1 January2019)',FinancialReportingStandard102'The FinancialReporting Standard
applicablein theUK andRepublicofIreland'andtheCompaniesAct2006.Thefinancial statements
have been prepared under the historical cost convention.

Income

Allincomeis recognisedin theStatementofFinancialActivitiesoncethecharityhasentitlement to
the funds, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably.

Expenditure

Liabilitiesarerecognisedasexpenditureassoonasthereisalegalorconstructive obligation
committingthe charityto that expenditure,it is probablethat a transferof economicbenefitswill be
requiredinsettlementandtheamountoftheobligationcanbemeasuredreliably.Expenditure is
accountedforonanaccrualsbasisandhasbeenclassifiedunderheadingsthataggregateall cost
relatedtothecategory.Wherecostscannotbedirectlyattributedtoparticularheadingsthey have
been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources.

Taxation

The charity is exempt from corporation tax on its charitable activities.
