  1. Apologies for Absence: None received

  2. Minutes of the previous AGM were approved

3. Chairman’s Report

The financial report below has more detail of the accounts – I would note that regular income (£1500 from subs together with £898 from gift aid) covered regular expenses (hall hire plus other items - £2365) although the gift aid covers two years worth of subs.

The concert programme has now more that recovered from Covid and, in addition, we seem to be filling in the quieter autumn and spring periods with church concerts.

The resulting healthy concert income of £2700 comes as surplus. A sa result we have a healthy bank balance which will come in useful when one day we need to pay our conductor – we are very privileged that Wally continues to refuse any payment so once again a big big thank you to him.

I would like to pay especial thanks to Keith Reynolds who continues to manage our our extensive library and our concert programme – he still comes every Thursday and we really couldn’t manage without him!

Finally a mention of absent friends. During the year Gay’s husband Ken passed away and will be missed both as a loyal supporter and host of their ‘summer picnics in the garden’. And then Annie Reed, a much loved back row cornet player. Rest in peace.

East Peckham Silver Band – Chairman’s Report for the year to February 2025

The financial report below has more detail of the accounts – I would note that regular income (£1420 from subs together with £531 from gift aid) comfortably covered regular expenses (hall hire - £1677) helped by the fact that our musical director conducted for free.

The concert income of £2700 then flows through to healthy surplus after concert expenses. In addition we sold some old instruments for £750. As a result we have a healthy bank balance of £21,000 (ie 3x revenue) and we have managed to keep the sub as one of the lowest in the brass band world.

This will help as we move to life with a new conductor. As a rough estimate, we are likely to have to pay between £1500 and £2000 for rehearsals, and up to £1500 more for concerts. So we do need to keep that revenue from concerts flowing and we should probably be prepared to have deficits for the next few years and allow that bank balance to fall.

The concert programme has recovered from Covid although we are finding it more difficult to get bandstand slots – for instance Eastbourne have significantly curtailed their programme of concerts. However, we are making up for this with more local church concerts etc so the programme we have is fairly extensive

Keith Reynolds has stepped away from managing our library. Over the last few years he has been through every one of our 1000+ pieces in the library so it is now in great shape and we are very grateful to him for the hard work. Chris Yelf has agreed to take over library management.

In February, Wally Hammonds retired as our musical director after ten years at the helm and we are extremently grateful to him for the way he has built up the band; he passes it to our next director and into a new era in fine fettle.
