The charty renovates family rooms on wards across the region, provides portablg libraries for use by families in hospital, provides medical equipment. sensory equipment physiotherapy equipment. staff training & comfort ttems. The charrty provides bereavement Ixeaks for families after the death of a child, and Peer Support to parents of sick children and bereaved arents. The trustees have had regard to the guidanrk issued by the Charity Commission on public tenefit when planning the activrf(ies of the CIO. Wrthout vital equipment, e.g. SATS and heart rate monitOfS, families cannot Care for their sick thildren at home and they would need to remain in hospital. Through the CIO'S wr¢hases families are able to be together at home, where they should be. The equipment tKJught will used by a succession of famil*s over time in the West Cumbria area. Having a child in intensive Care can mean that families canl bond with their child as they woutd normally. They felt they would aid cognitive development, provide educ4tional sOurceS and could be used by siblings of sick children and parents as a reprieve from the intense environment. There is a lack of sensory equipment and physiotherapy aids in the PICU. Long temi patients in InteVe care need stimulation to aid mntinued ojgnitive development lthile incapacitated. The children also require much support to continue their physi[ development and without the purchase of more equipment children miss out. The bereavement support will provide comfort, infonnation and help for farnilies in ir greatest time of need. followrng the loss of their child. We have continwl our Vrk helping parents when transferred into hospital with their child via ambulance, th08e familie8 who start lrfe together in Special Care Baby Unts, a1 our work with the Occupational Therapy Team to delivery sensory development support for children who spend an extended amijjnt of time in hosprtal.
