It was established (as the Urban minlstry and Theology project) as a creative way for the parishes and clergy of Byker and Walker to work and learn together with an initial emphasis on contributing to the economic regeneration of the area through the strategic use of the Church's resources, and also as a vehicle for theological training In an urban context, Our Objectlves: For the existing Anglican congregations to grow in spiritual depth, numerlcally and in theological awareness For new expresslons of church presence and mlsslon to emerge that honour the local context For local Christlans to develop models of mlnlstry that arise dirertly out of the context of soclal and economlc generatIon For exlsting buildin8S to be used In a strdtegic and economical way
For ecumenical cooperation and partnership to take place wherever appropriate and posslble • For the establishment of appropriate partnerships with both ststutory and voluntary agencies through stimulating interaction with communities of Newcastle East For those engaged in theological trainlng to share in learning gained by local people in a way that means we gain from their experience For theological reflection on the urban context to take place in the mldst of the activities generated by the Interaction of the above aim5 We run a youth project and outreach events that demonstrate our commitment and engagement with the Newcastle East area: A YoLth team (MINE Youth) that have developed to our work with young people across Nthycastte east. We found the model of Tunnlng clubs, schoobs yrk and detached youth work as povRrful ways of being with young people vthere they are. Some of the young people through this work have engaged with our sunday congregations and the connection with the local Church is important but there is also a sense of MINE Youth being a community of worship and discitleship In ts*f, connected to Church but pemission to expross rtself drff8r8nlly In responso to working wlth young p8ople. W8 currenty hav8 members of staffr. a 11 time School's worker, and part time youth Vrker in Byker. We have also been supported by a new partnership with St Thomas, Church (the Diocesan resource Church) and Ihe planting of an Eden team ot young peOe have moved into a local Estate inlenlionally to be with the communty and support the local church, v4ith an Eden Team Leader funded by Sl Thomas's and the Message TNst.
