Mission Initiative Newcastle East (MINE) is a Bishop's Mission Order and registered charity
worklng across the East end of Newcastle. It was established (as the Urban minlstry and
Theology project) as a creative way for the parishes and clergy of Byker and Walker to work
and learn together with an initial emphasis on contributing to the economic regeneration of
the area through the strategic use of the Church's resources, and also as a vehicle for
theological training In an urban context,
Our Objectlves:
For the existing Anglican congregations to grow in spiritual depth, numerlcally and in
theological awareness
For new expresslons of church presence and mlsslon to emerge that honour the local
context
For local Christlans to develop models of mlnlstry that arise dirertly out of the context of
soclal and economlc ￿generatIon
For exlsting buildin8S to be used In a strdtegic and economical way

For ecumenical cooperation and partnership to take place wherever appropriate and
posslble
• For the establishment of appropriate partnerships with both ststutory and voluntary
agencies through stimulating interaction with communities of Newcastle East
For those engaged in theological trainlng to share in learning gained by local people in a
way that means we gain from their experience
For theological reflection on the urban context to take place in the mldst of the activities
generated by the Interaction of the above aim5
We run a youth project and outreach events that demonstrate our commitment and
engagement with the Newcastle East area:
A YoLth team (MINE Youth) that have developed to our work with young people across Nthycastte east.
We found the model of Tunnlng clubs, schoobs y￿rk and detached youth work as povRrful ways of being with
young people vthere they are. Some of the young people through this work have engaged with our sunday
congregations and the connection with the local Church is important but there is also a sense of MINE Youth
being a community of worship and discitleship In ts*f, connected to Church but pemission to
expross rtself drff8r8nlly In responso to working wlth young p8ople. W8 currenty hav8 members of staffr. a
11 time School's worker, and part time youth V￿rker in Byker. We have also been supported by a new
