Old Malton War Memorial Hall
Chairmans report 2023-10-09
In difficult times, post Covid the Hall continues to be used almost daily. The recent improvements to the kitchen and toilets have made the hall a much more pleasant environment for the users. Local Builders Dutchy Homes have kindly donated a new kitchen along with a new fridge and cooker. The disabled toilet is now a separate room and the adapted multi-sex toilets have improved the space in the rear entrance which now includes a disabled ramp. The exterior of the building is in reasonable order but the windows etc will need painting when the weather improves. We have an on -site de-fibrillater which has been brought into use several times in the local community.
During this week we are having Solar Panels erected on the rear aspect of the hall. The work has been funded by the local council as part of the Ryedale Solar Power and thanks to Jos Holmes (Climate Change Officer) from NYCC for her work on the project. Access to the roof space had to be improved for this work and all insulation needs have been met.
Users of the hall include several fitness groups Pilates, Yoga and Seniors keep fit. We have a regular group from Ryedale Special Families . We also have a Brass band, bee keepers, and dog training.
The hall was the venue for a recent music festival called “ PeakerFest” which was very successful and hopefully this will turn into an annual event. Children’s birthday parties are held weekly and have proved a good source of income.
The Committee has been enhanced by the introduction of two new members Vicki Burgess ,now bookings secretary and Nigel Miller who will be helping investigate Grants for improvements to the main hall ceiling and floor surface.
