Achievements and Performance
| SORP reference | ||
|---|---|---|
| Summary of the main achievements of the charity, identifying the difference the charity’s work has made to the circumstances of its beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a whole. |
Para 1.20 | We took delivery of a container which was supplied by National Highways. This is used to store the equipment that we use at Blaencwm for air quality visits to the tunnel. During the year we stopped accepting then selling and delivering furniture from our charity shop. We exchanged the Partner van for a Nissan Navarro 4X4. This has proved most useful in getting to the Blaencwm entry because our normal route was blocked by construction work on a housing development. We were able to take some important visitors into the tunnel during the year. Our new Patron, TV presenter Martin Roberts, has been successful in reviving interest in the tunnel project, particularly with RCT Council. In March, we unveiled a new notice board about the Tunnel in Blaencwm at a well-attended event, followed by a chance for local residents to meet us at Martin’s pub, the Hendrewen. Frustrated with any progress towards the main goals of the Society, we made a planning application to expose the Blaencwm portal, costing about £0.5M, but with talk of a “levelling-up” grant to cover the whole project cost, we withdrew it. Our Technical Subcommittee has been looking at ways to dispose of the spoil from an excavated portal at Blaencwm, and has been in discussion with “Welcome to our Woods” about re-using the field below Penpych to receive fill and be developed. |
