**was supplied by National Highways.**
**This is used to store the equipment that**
**we use at Blaencwm for air quality visits**
**to the tunnel. During the year we**
**stopped accepting then selling and**
**delivering furniture from our charity**
**shop. We exchanged the Partner van for**
**a Nissan Navarro 4X4. This has proved**
**most useful in getting to the Blaencwm**
**entry because our normal route was**
**blocked by construction work on a**
**housing development. We were able to**
**take some important visitors into the**
**tunnel during the year. Our new Patron,**
**TV presenter Martin Roberts, has been**
**successful in reviving interest in the**
**tunnel project, particularly with RCT**
**Council. In March, we unveiled a new**
**notice board about the Tunnel in**
**Blaencwm at a well-attended event,**
**followed by a chance for local residents**
**to meet us at Martin’s pub, the**
**Hendrewen.**
**Frustrated with any progress towards**
**the main goals of the Society, we made**
**a planning application to expose the**
**Blaencwm portal, costing about £0.5M,**
**but with talk of a “levelling-up” grant to**
**cover the whole project cost, we**
**withdrew it. Our Technical**
**Subcommittee has been looking at ways**
**to dispose of the spoil from an**
**excavated portal at Blaencwm, and has**
**been in discussion with “Welcome to**
**our Woods” about re-using the field**
**below Penpych to receive fill and be**
