Trustees’ Annual Report for the period

From 01/09/2023 Period start date To Period end date

31/08/2024

Charity name: Cats in Need Menorca

Charity registration number: 1161878

Objectives and Activities Caring for street cats in Menorca by trapping and neutering.

SORP reference
Summary of the purposes of
the charity as set out in its
governing document
Para 1.17 To relieve the suffering of cats in
Menorca by trapping, neutering and
where possible returning to where they
were caught.
To provide veterinary care for the sick
and injured.
Provide and maintain feeding stations
throughout the island.
Working with the locals to control, in a
humane way, the cat population to
prevent unwanted kittens being born
and therefore unnecessary suffering.
Summary of the main
activities in relation to those
purposes for the public
benefit, in particular, the
activities, projects or
services identified in the
accounts.
Para 1.17 and
1.19
Our main activities are trapping and
neutering along with caring for the sick
and often injured cats in traffic
accidents.
We work very hard to educate the locals
on the advantages of controlling the cat
population. Menorca is a holiday island
and we find that many holidaymakers
are very relieved to find the cats on the
island so well cared for. Of course this
encourages them to donate to the
Charity.
Statement confirming
whether the trustees have
had regard to the guidance
issued by the Charity
Commission on public
benefit
Para 1.18 I confirm the trustees have regard for
the help guidance given by the Charities
Commission for the benefit to the
public.

Achievements and Performance

SORP reference
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 We are finding it increasingly difficult to
establish feeding stations due to many
British property owners selling.
However the feline population is under
control in most areas.
Due to the new strict Animal Welfare Bill
the local Town Halls are obliged to
control the sterilisation of cats and
them not having enough people to catch
the cats themselves they are paying the
basic cost of neutering for at least 2
years.
This is great news for all the societies
as we are all suffering a rapid decrease
in donations as people struggle with the
general increase in the cost of living.
Our vet continues to provide an
excellent service keeping blood tests
and x rays at a very reasonable cost
along with dental care for the elderly
cats.
There are 2 areas of concern on the
island both holiday destinations offering
self catering accommodation where the
cats move around and are often not
known to us and where unwanted
kittens are dumped.
We have also had the expense of a new

colony where cats had been allowed to breed indiscriminately for several years despite numerous attempts to persuade them to let us neuter. However because of the new laws we have more power. Many of the cats and kittens were in a very bad state. 2 kittens needing an eye removed. They were all wormed, treated for fleas and were vaccinated along with being neutered. Good food was provided and now we have another colony of healthy and happy cats. All very expensive but worth it. They are well loved.

The new fence is nearly finished giving the cats more freedom to explore the large garden.

Many of the people who feed the cats around the island are the same, just getting older and a little slower but still they continue with their good work many going out at night to avoid the seagulls.
